I have been to every Melbourne based match since I can remember but one thing I have noticed is that the Melbourne crowds is often protrayed through the media as passionless and quiet on gameday..
I totally disagree.. The Melbourne Crowd Cheers and cheers loud..

Even though we generally get a pretty poor attendance, I think the passion very much resenates with our core group of supporters that are there every week...

Melb v Freo 08
Melb v Bris 08
Melb v Coll 08
Melb v Adel 09

All these games except the collingwood game we had under 20,000 and it sounds like over 50,000...

Good stuff Dees fans!

I agree. Something I've noticed the last year or so. Small crowd, but we can make quite a bit of noise (obviously not the same as when Buddy kicks a goal from the boundary in front of 60,000). Our crowd seem to love the bronx cheer when we finally get our first free kick awarded 15 minutes into the opening quarter.

been to all the home games this year, and been impressed with our crowd. felt like a lot more than 14000 when the boys managed to string a few together last week in the final quarter (y)

When wonners ran in for the goal to put us in the lead, the roar was as loud as i've heard by any team.

I'm sure there's more than a handful of people here that anyone that believes the stereotype should sit next to during a close finish.

Here's dovetail for the thread, what's the most you've ever gone off (good or bad) at a game.

I took my 7 year old daughter to the game last year when we beat brisbane by a point, and when cameron the bruce snapped from 45m to put us in front the atmosphere was electric.I was on a high all the way back to ararat and cant wait to feel like that again:thumbsu:

I remember being absolutely furious for the first half of the Saints elimination final in 06 and going bananas when Brock almost single-handedly got us back into it in the second half....

I took my (now) ex girlfriend with me to that game who didn't really understand footy and the passion that goes with it, and more than once she looked at me like I was a freak.

Not sure if anyone else heard Gary Lyon's remarks on the footy show about Melbourne's display last week but i am really starting to get annoyed with this guy.
he made a point about saying how disgraceful we were against Adelaide & only kicking 1 goal to 3qtr time.......i actually thought we battled well considering the conditions etc. Even James Hird on Foxtel complimented the way we kept on trying.
obvisously gary didn't watch the game & just relied on other journo's reports.
it about time he started to pump the club up a bit or even better, get more involved.

2000 final vs Carlton by a mile

I lost my voice from shouting on Sunday. Was sitting right on the Adelaide bench (touching distance from the players) and I think they were getting annoyed with my sledging. When I wasn't shouting, I was sledging Petrenko for having one touch till three quarter time, or Reilly for being a spud, etc :p

Thought I might as well do my bit making noise to make up for all the fans who couldn't be bothered braving the weather to watch their team.

Melb v Bris 08

The crowd was wild that day. You couldn't hear the final siren when it rang.

Hmm 2000 Qualifying final against Carlton. Lost my mind in that last quarter.

And 1987 Round 22, Western Oval against the Dogs. When Brian Wilson floated home that goal in the last quarter, I freakin flipped out.

Back to Ararat. I would almost give you crap for that if all my family wasn't from Beaufort and Buangor!:thumbsu:

For the most I have gone off at a game, it would probably be the round 22 game against Essendon when we had to win to play finals.

I also went ballistic at the Brisbane game last year. I am liking our crowd more and more these days, with added numbers we will geniunely be one of the louder supporter groups in the AFL.

Just on that 2006 final v St.Kilda, the best bit (Barring the last quarter) was when Pickett ran down Milne in the first few minutes. The shout of 'BALLLLLLLLL' was electric.

The most I ever went off badly was when we got done by Port Adelaide in '07. 30 seconds left and McDonald gets pinged for deliberate and I just lost it. Walked out screaming abuse randomly into the ether and kicked a rubbish bin over. Security guard goes "come on man it's just a game". Further spray. Lucky I was right at the gate anyway.

Very embarassing in retrospect.

What the **** else could have he done?! :thumbsd: From memory we had just had a series of close losses, aswell.

I know. I'm usually as much a defender of the umpires as any fan can be but that was unbelievable. I seem to recall he tried to handball it but hit the ground and it bounced out over the line.

We lost to North by a point the next week as well. Another spaz out, but not quite as magnificent. Usually I'm very placid - it was highly unusual.

Round 21 05' against the Bulldogs when White kicked the goal from 45m on an angle to complete an incredible comeback. I remember I was hugging pretty much anyone I saw.

St.Kilda in the EF in 2006 was best game i've been to in terms of joy hands down, it'd been the first time we won a final for like 4 years.
When Yze kicked the sealer i couldn't control myself! Pitty we lost to Fremantle a week later.... The Brisbane game last year would have to rank a close second. :thumbsu:

Garry Lyon said he turned the game off in the second half, couldn't watch
anymore. This guy is a joke. I agree wholehartedly. Our effort was good enough and to hear garry say this is very disappointing.
