whenever a team is being rejuvenated you hear the older players (Like Bob Murphy last year) talk about how everything is exciting again and how young it makes them feel having the kids running around.
Sydney hav freshened their list and came out running. Hawthorn change it up a bit each year.
Ross has got every drop out of our list, we need the likes of the 3 amigos and Alex Pearce getting around Fyfe and forming the nucleus of the new Freo. And as has been said above we need to get the players having fun and being creative again.
What we saw today was the natural follow on from how we ended last year.
Something has to give.

Yep. There is no shame, to my mind, in having tried to wring every last drop out of the list. But I think, results of the next 3 weeks withstanding, this is a point where you say; okay, we've done that, we didn't get the ultimate prize, it's time to go back to the start again.

Reactionary after round 1? Sure. But the context of the list age, the end of last year and what seems to be a change in the style of the game this year, a call that isn't that outlandish.

The manner of the loss is what hurts for me. It's accepted that we need a better gameplan, but today I didn't see anything that gave optimism on that front. The dogs absolutely owned the corridor - it's not like our turnovers came from attempting a run and gun approach to the game. We looked stagnant, forced to kick wide where it was inevitably coughed up. Frustrating as hell.

Spot on.

Well if you can guarantee that we'll make a grand final this year after we get smashed in a couple of weeks time then maybe I'll be okay with it, but if you can't then I think there will be changes.

There are no guarantees in life. Sorry, I can't even guarantee you'll have a shit tomorrow.

But the point is it's not a sprint it's a marathon and blah. Premierships aren't awarded in May and blah. We just got to regroup and take it one blah at a time, and just concentrate on getting a blah over Gold Blah, and they're a good side and blah blah blah...

Really worried about our ruck future now that Moller isn't here. Yes, I know, he was crap for most of his time with us but there was a plan for the future with glimpses of improvement last year.

He was good last year and played mostly forward, I think it was against Perth last year and Clarke went down and Moller rucked excellent. Appness had better come good but he's not the athlete Moller was.

We brought in Yarran and Bennall to top the list up which looked like sound thinking but we need them playing and scoring goals.

I expect nothing less than blood after that performance. Utterly bewildered.
After watching the NAB I had no real expectations for the season. Top 8, maybe even top 4. Not hm else unless Bennell could ignite.

Ball movement hasn't really changed, forward set up not much different.

We've always had problems with quick sides with good footskills.
Exactly what WB are...

This is why it can be so frustrating to hear people say that they are against players like Weller playing today. What's our plan B? de Boer?
The benchmark teams that have been there for years and that are still there today have managed to do so by turning over their list and garnishing their sides with exciting young talent for years. Sydney had something like 8 players under 30 games or something crazy.

These sides have made the tough calls in able to stay at the forefront of the competition. We can't do the same if we're debating about a half arsed rumour about whether or not Lachie Weller's 3km time trial was a touch behind where it should've been.

Papley and Hewett debuted yesterday.
Papley kicked 3.1
Hewett 1.2
Also Mills 0.2 and 18 possessions.
3 debutants and win by 80

Moller was never going to make it.

I heard a story once about how in 2006, after a poor start to the year, and before going on that winning streak that eventuated in a prelim against the swans, the players all took a trip to a farm, and spoke to each other. They had a meeting about how they were going, why they were so dissapointed about the season, what was going wrong, what they wanted out of each other, and just became closer as a group.
It resulted in Chris Connolly literally burning up their gameplan, in a bonfire, and the coaching staff telling the players to just go out there, have fun, enjoy themselves, and play the footy they want to play, with skill, flair, and as a team. We won 9 games in a row.

Today we didn't feel like a team. To me, the players minds are just so full of instructions and gameplan and structure that they aren't confident to break free and run and support and actually take the game on, just like the bulldogs did. When things break down, they panic, and they're uncertain about what to do, weary of not sticking to the plan. It's not just about 'going back to the basics', it's just playing with purpose, confidence and doing what they want to do. Yes we need a plan and a structure, but the players head's can't be so overstuffed that they have no room to move. Taberner especially. I'm not going to knock the kid, but use him as an example. It should be relatively straightforward for him. Present, mark, kick truly. But I think he's been fed so many instructions and information about what to do, where to go etc. that he's out of place and is just completely unconfident.

We have the skills. Yes, they weren't there today, but we do have them. We have the youth, we just need to have faith in them. This list can win a flag, but not with the 22 Ross picks every week, and not with whatever gameplan that was against the dogs.

I think Ross and the boy's need to go on a little trip, have a big heart to heart, clear their heads, and figure out the footy they want to play. Because that's not the fremantle I know.

It's round 1....

And we lost by 11 goals. Accepting mediocrity has been the bane of Fremantle for 20 years, it has to stop.
Seriously where have you been the past 4 years.... Accepting Mediocrity is well past us now...It was an average display today, no doubt...Let's see this week with sandi, Jonno and maybe another in before its questioning mediocrity based on round 1.

Sandi and Johno aren't worth 11 goals. We were bad, and yes it's round it 1, but so what? That makes it even worse. We should be fresh, fit, and ready. No real excuses today, and you know it.
