As a member of west coast, I and many others know the realistic requirements for a premiership side having experienced such jubilation (twice!!). Unfortunately I must concede not being in the running for the flag in 2002.

Freo however, seems to think it can relish on the ladders bottom -pick up a few disgards, and magically threaten good sides the year after.

AFL Report

Cousins simply superb - as usual.
Jeremy Humm with another good performance. Looks like he'll definitely line-up in Rnd1.

Fantastic to see blokes like Embly, Haynes, Williams stepping up.
There's going to be real competiton for spots in Round1.

Practice Match maybe, but I'm still happy. :)

Why is it that the Bummers can only ever seem to win one flag when they're on top for a five year period?

Which 5 year period to you speak of? Surely not 1997-2001?

Lighten up topdon ! - were not reading anything out of the ordinary- the bombers / lions are the yardstick of the comp so its encouraging when our team can have a win against your mob even if it is a scratch match.

Aren't they the Bombres:D

Anyway, GREAT to hear we had a win with a pretty average side, what was Essendon's side? looks like it was actually pretty good, or am i wrong?

Anyway, great news:D

Yes, i am wrong, wasn't that good a side. Essendon missing about 10-12 regulars, eagles missing about 11 so although Essendon won't be too worried(they lost all there pre-season games last season you might remember) it gives some REALLY positive signs for the eagles:D

The result means squat all. As much as I would like to bask in the fact that we beat the bombers, truth is both teams were just playing to get match fitness and experimenting with their players.

Its good to see that we won, obviously the bombers players didn't lose delibrately, but we must remember that EVEN FREO beat the bombers in the peaseason. Best thing to come out of the game is that the youngsters seem top be coming along nicely, and we look good for an assault on the premiership in 2003+ :D

Hey i wasn't taking things seriously! Nah ... you're boys played really well and its not going to be all doom and gloom for the West Coast boys this season (as everyone seems to have predicted).

It was pretty warm out there today. Hey ... when it comes to praccy matches ... i'm happy regardless of the result as long as we get through the game unscathed.

:)

I think its a great win. I know they had players out too but we were missing Kerr, Matera, Jakovich, Gardy, Cox, Fletcher, Banfield, Morrison, McIntosh, Collica and a couple of others....most of those guys will be in the team come round 1. I think all todays win goes to show is that WC has a better crop of youngsters that Essendon.

I can just see us whooping Freo come round 1..

CARN THE MIGHTY EAGLES!!

Both teams missing good quality players, it still is good for the Coasters to notch up a win. The team is in a winning mood at the moment and can carry that confidence into round one when we belt the Frockers into submission.

Our squad definately has some talented youngsters and that is good for the team to have the senior members have a little pressure on them to perform.

I still think we have a long way to go before we can consider ourselves a threat for the flag, but the signs are good, the dark clouds are moving away.

There is no way we shall finish last this year. Those who predict that we will certainly have not taken notice of the Eagles this year. Still, are they not in for a nice surprise.......
