Get out! How does one get to meet David Bowie? :eek::thumbsu:
I remember hanging around waiting at the stage door at a concert once, hoping to meet the singer :oops:

Met Bowie at the airport in the mid-80s - he kindly signed my vinyl copy of Heroes, but the bloody black texta went all dry.

"Aww, 'ang about. We'll get that sorted for ya'," he said, shook the pen, and bingo - a semi-dry texta signature that's still there.

A few weeks later I bumped into him on a side street near Kings Cross in Sydney - our hotels were next to each other.

It's a small world Karen!

That's such a good story James :thumbsu:

You must have been so young at the time (if you are James from 1970 lol!), and what luck to have his album with you!

Would you be able to talk to David Bowie manboob ? I'd totally freak out if I bumped into an idol of mine.

Never being a huge rap fan I prefer the Tricky version myself.

Remember Paul McDermott's version of Opps, I Did It Again?

watched both and the pe version for mine was superior, i just think the tricky version removed what was great about it (ie the chaos).

checked that out, but found much more interesting things (apologies for spamming) which should probably be in the joke thread:

On the Beatles , I guess its my all time favorite band but its certainly not the be all and end all. On covers , there are plenty that are worthy of being played on there own. Across the Universe movie had several i enjoyed. I think the Dear Prudence by Doug Parkinson was good from memory , yesterday was done by that many people , gees I have an album somewhere of dogs barking Beatles songs , but one of the best "out there" cover done with the help of Martin would have to be .......

DS= Dawson Simpson??

Nahhh.. trickin' you... Dire Straits :) The blokes who sing that song.
I saw some really pathetic person call Dawson sores as a nick name injury trolling is a disgrace i felt like injuring him and it was on this site

What about favourite tracks that are more of a 'homage' than cover?

Here's Bowie's masterpiece of Euro-pop Sound and Vision from the tremendous album Low.

Nick Lowe loved the album so much, he wrote a song about it, using the same riff...and a few years later released an EP called Bowi (gettit? :D)

You mean like this?

I think Elastica meant it as a "homage".

Everyone else called it a "rip off".

I still like both though...

This one would please all the Coldplay haters out there...

Sounds a lot like...

Out of court settlement agreed too.

I can think of one related to The Smiths;

Apparently Morrissey was a huge fan of '60's female singers, and paid homage Sandie Shaw's "Heaven Knows I'm Missing Him Now";

with the similarly titled "Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now";

This one may not have been a homage as such (probably more a rip off), but remember thinking just how much the riff in The Doors classic "Hello I love You";

sounds like The Kinks "All Day and All of the Night";

Thanks for jolting my memory of T-Rex James, have been listening to my favourites, "Metal Guru" and this today. It's hard not to dance sometimes :);

Can't be certain, but seem to remember reading The Doors having to pay up for knocking off The Kinks with that one catgal.

How about Bang a Gong by T-Rex, know you love that one too :D;)
