Streaming The Netflix Thread

Streaming Television

I don't see the big deal about Netflix and the quality of their streaming..... looks very average at times (but for some reason despite having the premium 4K streaming.... the bitrate is at times worse.... or only just better than dvd quality).

Haven't subbed to Disney+ as yet, but I might sample it for a month in the future.
I'd say that AppleTV has the best streaming quality by far!

So people enjoyed S7 of Black Mirror?

Only seen the first two. 1st was was good but the second was average.

Really struggling with the Brandy character in the 3rd ep already

I feel there's so much psycho material in this AI, Deepfake world that these eps should really wrote themselves these days.

It definitely gets worse.

it shows Piper’s mother kissing one of the underage boys on the mouth (like a proper kiss), how she isolated any of the children whose parents pulled them out of The Squad, allegations of molestation from multiple children against Tiffany, and what Piper is being forced to do now (bikini photos etc)

They showed those things at the end of ep 1 as a preview to how it gets worse. That's when I thought I didn't want to watch any more.

I don't think kids influencing is necessarily bad. Or other media content featuring children. One or two videos a week. The kids might be learning acting, dancing, presentation skills, musical instruments. But the show highlights how abuse can sometimes happen in an unregulated environment.

I do understand the tenet of your post though, it's crazy how 1) great looking people seem to be the best drivers, and 2) they don't have much fear of ruining their looks in a high-speed sport. I had such anxiety watching Norris' nose scar!

I understand the fuss over George Russell but the rest just look normal to me.

However I'm straight so I'm probably not the best judge on male attractiveness hehe!

In regards to the series it's been more enjoyable then the last 3 and it already looks like next series will be good as well.

Horner comes across as a flog weather he is winning or losing but Toto is actual tolerable now.

A few years old now, but watched Downfall: The Case against Boeing.

I watch a few aviation YouTube channels that go into the mechanics of aviation accidents/disasters - but didn't know as much about the corporate side of things with the two crashes that the docco covers. Crazy how much Boeing got away with (and still do).

Took me a couple of eps to get into it, but enjoyed the Red Sox behind the scenes doco of their 2024 season. Don't know a lot about baseball so gave some good insights into the sport.

We just watched a 3-part documentary series on the Sydney Luna Park fire in 1979 that killed six boys and one adult. I have never seen this one before. Looks like it was originally made for the ABC. I do remember this fire as I was about the same age as the four Waverly Park school boys who were killed back then, so it stuck with me. Anyway, I have to say this was an extraordinarily well-made documentary.

The findings were that, allegedly, Sydney crime kingpin Abe Saffron (now deceased) was behind it because he wanted to lease that harbourside land, and corrupt police covered up the cause of the fire from the start. Allegedly, the whole cover-up seemed to have come from former Premier Neville Wran, Judge Lionel Murphy (deceased), and a deputy Police Commissioner on behalf of Saffron and carried out by corrupt cops lower down the chain. Such a fantastic example of investigative journalism, with much of the information collected by deceased Australian artist Martin Short, who spent his life investigating it.

If you like Scandinavian crime thrillers (I do) I recommend 'The Glass Dome'.
I watched the Glass Dome, and I did enjoy it, but I don't think it's first division Scandi by any means. But as always, acting, cinematography, locations, etc were excellent. A lot of sub-plots went unexplored, and it all went a bit hectic and implausible towards the end. I've seen the guy who played Tomas in other things; I think he's very good.

I'd be keen to get a shortlist of your first division Scandi's, in case there's any in there I may have missed?

Finished it now. All 6 episodes were good in terms of story, acting, production values. They had better make a season 2 as there were so many unanswered questions.
Yeh couldn't see how they could possibly finish it in episode 6. And they didn't. So needs that 2nd season to explain almost everything!

Damn them. I want to know what it's all about! Trying to make sense of it.

There was a green aurora. Two of the girls on the boat died but Clara was locked in the cabin. She later turns up but has no memory of where she's been.
There's red fireballs in the sky.
The power went off. Devices and vehicles stopped. Except old stuiff that doesn't have modern electronics.
The snow kills everyone it makes contact with. But a small amount landed on Juan's hand and he was ok.
The earth's magnetic poles have switched.
Juan has flashbacks or flashforwards with speculation that he's done all this before and he's in a simulated reality.
The bugs don't eat people but they eat each other. They wrap people up and drag them away.
The bugs and most surviving humans are being mind controlled by a creature that makes music with its 30 fingers.
What does the show title mean?

My missus started watching this but I have been watching Love on the Spectrum, about young people with autism working their way through love and heartache.
I think it is one of the most beautiful shows I have ever watched.
These young people with autism are such wonderful people.
No filter, just raw, sweet honesty.
I am often in tears watching this.

It is magnificent. Like yourself, only started watching it because the First Lady was, and I happened to be in the room.

Totally got me in, and this is from someone who abhors all of those dating shows and Tinder TV gobshyte.

Truly brilliant television.

It is truly beautiful and I often think, why can’t we be more like them.
Back in my youth we would call people with autism, ******s. Disgusting in hindsight.
They are truly marvellous people, to the extent where the missus and I think we would love to have an autistic child.
It would be a gift.
The parents are brilliant too, which is so important.

Been watching Les Norton recently.
Not bad, easy watch, bit patchy.
Vaguely recall reading one of the books years ago and was surprised to see this relatively old series pop up on Netflix, where it is one of the top ten show currently.
