The never ending Priddis debate - part II

Bit of a random post but I was watching the 99 derby on 7mate last night and I never realised how much Banfield reminds me of Priddis. Played in the midfield and moved very similar only with a touch more pace and better kick obviously.

A lot more pace, could actually take a mark, much better kick, harder....actually the only similarity is that they are both left footers.

Yep and Nic Nat is being more unpredictable to the opposition with his taps, Shuey has been excellent and is thriving. Same as Yeo, those two could make a formidable midfield partnership.

I will still say Priddis has served the club well and should be respected but he is being over taken by the next generation...............as he should be.

Yes, served the club admirably as the midfield anchor in the worst sustained midfield in the history of our club. Thanks Matt, you'll be the low ebb against which actual quality is measured. [emoji106]

priddis was inoffensive last night - he had a few momentum killing handballs that went to the player instead of in from of them - but the giants were too shit to take advantage - freo would have murdered us for it

Based on this fact that priddis is being overtaken by the next generation would it be safe to say that Simpson saw his flaws and is acknowledging that his limitations are costing us?

He has played reasonably well the last few games. Still gets left at the post and people run off him but both his handball and kicking has been OK. I agree tho' that he no longer seems to be the focus at clearances so the coaching staff have woken up. Of course he wouldn't have had the time against stronger sides but he had some very good creative disposals last night. I was still gobsmacked that this morning chanel 9 (Scott the smurf) gave him BOG against Brisbane...unbelievable!! I'm happy if he continues to play a minor role in the midfield as you do need experience with playing younger guys

Has had little to no impact this year, even though his numbers are still ok. But that is typical Priddis, and is exactly why he should never be our number one midfielder again. He shouldn't even be in the first rotation.

Look at some stage Priddis would have been over taken by the younger emerging mids. And thankfully it looks like its starting to happen. That should be no surprise to anyone. Lets just be thankful we aren't Carlton with Judd still standing head and shoulders above all others old or new.

Its not Priddis's fault he's been our best midfielder over the past few years. We all hoped that others would have stood up sooner but that didn't happen.

I'd just like to see some respect shown to the bloke we picked up as a rookie and got the best out of himself which was darn sight better than quite a few other top draft picks both at the Eagles and elsewhere.

Played his role very well as usual .
Don't start lauding our new midfield set up until they play better opposition or in not ideal conditions .
Also as awesome as yeo is he can't run out a game in the midfield

tbh if yeo is a starting mid then as the game goes on and he tires then priddis rotates in there - he is less likely to be exposed so badly for pace when his opponents are tired

its just good to see that finally there is another position on the ground he can be used in - its killed us having him only in the centre

It's hard to miss tackles when you're turtle tackling flat-footed, stationary opponents for the most part.

I have been a member of BF for a few years now and have learnt a lot from this forum. And as I have posted on a few occasions, my background is rugby not football so my knowledge base is limited. But this has to be said…

For the past few seasons I have kept a close eye on Priddis trying to recognise the flaws in his game play that are so vigorously described in this forum. Well here's the thing.. Not only do I reckon that the exaggerated criticism of Priddis is shite and inaccurate but - it suggests to me that the knowledge base of a few BF members on this forum is not much more than mine.

I get his weaknesses, god only knows they've been detailed to the nth degree. But it seems to me that to have such a biased/unbalanced view on a bloke who contributes so much and can muster sufficient votes from the umps to earn a Brownlow medal, well… it seems a classic case of the simple truth getting in the way of a good story, one that the easily led masses have dined out on all too easily.

Priddis has a role to play based on his skill-set and he plays that role like the true champion he is. And furthermore, he will be there to pick up his winners medal when next we stand on the podium on grand final day.
