I just stumbled across this link on the AFL website, and it was interesting reading:

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2014-01-24/the-new-moneyball

Reading it, I couldn't help but think that perhaps Blair Hartley has a system similar to this, that identifies how useful to the side a certain player could be. Looking at players such as Houli, Grigg, Maric and Chaplin, looking at them, most of us wouldn't have guessed they would have had as much of an impact on the side as what they have done. Do you reckon Blair could be one of the third of the AFL who is using this system?

Hopefully Hampson is the next player that can prove many wrong.

To be perfectly honest, out of all of Houli, Grigg, Maric and Chaplin, I am most confident in Hampson offering us something as a squad, than what I was with the others. I have been of the firm belief that Hampson would have been a valuable addition to our squad for several years, and have been an advocate for us trading for him. I just felt he was being underutilised at the Blues, and that we could get the most out of him.

"One club using the program last year recruited a player from another club who had struggled to break into that side. They knew they could get him at basement price and the system showed he would provide almost one win for the season, so they signed him." Richmond - Matt Thomas?

"On the other hand, Ward and Deeble have gone back through recent years of trade periods, finding that when one particular club brought in a number of recruits at once, they totaled to just 0.4 wins." Melbourne - Byrnes, Gillies, Dawes, Rodan?

When I read this yesterday, I thought that the last couple of years smacked of the Tigers......... In the long run, I would have thought Hawthorn and Sydney have been doing this for years.

I read that and what comes to mind is the share trading programs people get sucked into buying along with the old adage about Lies, Dam Lies and Statistics. It just sets of alarm bells all over the place. Would be a great product to sell in the sense of the range of emotions you could pray on to get the order but I'm skeptical.

Blair is the master at this we identify targets who will take us forward or improve the team and get them in usually on cheap coin they also come to us with confidence that we want them which I think is important so much of elite sport is mental
