Exactly, they're duds. They're ruining the club and making us a laughing stock. Why sack Sando, if they are bringing in another inexperience coach? It doesn't matter that they did a review and they had no trust in Sando we should of kept him. We should have a new coach now. It doesn't matter they're trying to get the best coaches to build a winning culture. These things happen overnight. We are rabble. Won't anyone think of the children or Lindy?

Because if the choice is between someone you know isn't up to it, and is going to cause damage in the interim, and a fresh start with a new person who might be up to it...

I'm a pretty big fan of Bassett, regardless of his former ties to the club, so I do hope he's involved somehow. I do have slight worries about his temperament though, there has bee squeaks coming out of Collingwood that there's a few players upset with Buckleys attitude and I worry players here will react the same.

coaches with that temperament are either loved or hated it seems. the players loved malthouse apparently, and as you say dislike buckley.
The players at norwood gush over bassett so I think he falls into the loved category.

As i heard last night.. a famous allan jeans quote " doesnt matter who you have coaching you gotta have the players to win games" and the crows have a very average list.. sure we have a good core group of 8-10 players but the rest are average! i will be very shocked if we win the 12-13 games to make the 8 next year. i want a coach that looks pi$$ed off all the time and gives attitude to the reporters at press confernces, i want a coach that breaks the phone in the coaches box and a coach who isnt stubborn.

All I want is coaches from different successful clubs. Last time we got a new coach we only had a Geelong and Adelaide influence in the box with Dean Bailey the exception. We need more broad ideas. More than at Geelong we did this or played like that. We need variety. I just want a great coaching group. Getting a premiership coach would b awesome but they're hard to get. Not just for our club but other clubs too.

A few squeeks? Why do you think Harry O is going, Heath Shaw is gone and Dane Swan is holding on by a string. Buckley is pig headed and doesn't get along well with everyone.

That's what I've told a few people now, especially about Noble. Everyone just thinks it's Roo throwing his weight around, but Noble was part of the review process and decision too. If there's anyone who'd know what he's capable, or not capable of on match day it would be the guy who was sitting right next to him for 22 weeks of the year.

I agree that the overall panel needs a combo of coaching experience and fresh ideas straight out of the game.

I also love the idea of getting coaches from a range of successful clubs…not just becoming 'x-lite'.

The other aspect which Roo has highlighted in building the culture of the club. When i listen to the quotes from Clarkson in the last day, as well as other Hawks of the past like Dipper, the depth of feeling and pride they have in being part of the Hawthorn Football Club is something that we have yet to build. In part, that's understandable as we have a much shorter history, and blokes like Trigg have ruined large chunks of it. Heck, even the PAPs have co-opted the Magpies to create their version of history and culture. I'd love a coach that builds on the past 25 years to transform us into a club that players/officials embrace and love…get the PRIDE back into the AFC.

We still won 11 this year even though we were awful/mediocre at the very least for most of the year ...

This is a good point. For mine this is why Bassett should get the gig. If he's given the right support and the right amount of freedom he will build that culture and pride. He's done it at Norwood and he's a Crows boy so has that pedigree...

Have to disagree on this one. It's more than Internet forum people jumping. This has been built up in the mainstream media and originally fuelled by Fagan and Chapman with the whole moving away from mediocrity and putting in place the best football department.

Then mainstream media start spruiking Clarkson, and finally it all lead to Jarmans rumour. Even then the club statement did not douse it.

If there ends up being widespread disappointment with the new coach the club has only itself to blame

hmm I have to disagree. swans were famous for taking players that were shit at other clubs and getting something out of them that the previous coach couldn't. I don't think too many would've been talking up ports list before hinkley arrived either.
how would we know how good mcrouch, grigg and lyons are? sando never played them.
If we missed the 8 by 1 game with the player/coach chemistry that we apparently had then I see no reason why a good coach couldn't sneak us in the 8.

Always went against the grain, massive character and wouldn't hesitate to put the media in its place if they talked bullshit. Never bought into the boys club crap and always played it his own way.

I think he'll be just as successful at AFL level as he has at SANFL provided he has the right support.

Just get some talent around him. To me, he feels like a young, fresh Clarko. Take that in a heartbeat.

I never included Bassett in the "boys club" though. He played for us, but I don't get the "He's getting the job because he's one of us" vibe that guys like Bickley and Smart get to me.

After the GF it will be put to Clarkson, and when he refuses, it will be offered to Bassett.


Bassett is a little crazed and intense, but Norwood players seem very devoted to him, he was successful, and he reinvented some players careers.
I'm hoping it's Bassett.

Forget Clarko, he’s not coming.

So they want, preferably, a proven coach. The only one that is gettable and that is not coaching or currently contracted is Thompson. I know he said he wouldn't be coming because of the way we sacked Sando but he also said he would coach again and that he was burnt out when he left the cats.

I still think he may be the one. Lets face it Clarko and Longmire are contracted and are not leaving their clubs.

Thompson is the only “premiership” coach we have a reasonable chance of getting.
