Mark Butler on 3AW telling Healy/Russell that Bolton has impressed the Crows and is very much in the running. Great communicator apparently. Don't know how this will go down with Crows' supporters. He doesn't exactly have a high profile.

Brendon Bolton
Hawthorn

DOB:18/04/1979

Playing record:
North Launceston 1998: P'Ship 1998, D Baldock Medal 1998
Clarence 2002: P'Ship 2002
North Hobart 2003: P'Ship 2003, William Leitch Medal 2003

Coaching record:
North Hobart 2003-2005: P'Ship 2003
Tassie Devils Coach 2006
Clarence Senior Coach 2008
Box Hill Senior Coach 2009-2011
Hawthorn Asst. Coach 2012-

Brendan joined the Hawks as coach of the Box Hill VFL team in 2009. In 2012 Brendon will transfer his experience at Box Hill into a senior assistant coach with Hawthorn. Known for his ability to create a learning environment, Brendon is a key appointment for the Hawks. Brendon has a Bachelor of Human Movement and is a Level 3 accredited Coach.
This would be an unmitigated disaster - and that's not intended to insult Bolton who seems a capable assistant - but to go from Sanderson to Bolton would make us look idiots.

Can't be true

How is the credentials of him compare though to Bassett? I would think they are fairly even, coupled with the fact that Bassett is a Club legend (well maybe not legend, but well respected).

Nail, Hammer, Head.

But is this not the same as with any other assistant coach?

Yes - and my position from the start is that the AFC needs to appoint a proven senior coach either as head coach or as a Director of coaching with a quality senior assistant.

SANFL flags worth way more than Tassie ones

Which is why I said Bassett should be ahead of Bolton.

Now the only reason why they may have Bolton ahead is because he has worked intimately with Clarko, but still even then.

Goodness me - every board has really turned into bay 13 now.

This is going to be a long off season.
Just a play on "slops" Sando not being our first choice even though Hinkley was no where near Port's first choice. That's main board stuff, over there at least. :P

Flags worth a lot more and the total turning around of the club that he did..
Be surprised if they go with Bolton..
He'd want to be good..

There will be a lot of heat on the new coach regardless of who we appoint aside from Clarko, but the pressure will really come in if we get someone like a Bolton etc. He will really need to prove his worth immediately.

I like the way that Hinkley stated that he was "the best man standing". The reality was as you pointed out he wasnt Port's first choice, it would be interesting to know who was.

The only way I want Bolton's name mentioned is as a smokescreen for the bigger prize in a bigger chair right next to him.

Know a few lads who have played with/under Bolts down in Tassie. When he stepped in for Clarko earlier this year, those boys said they were not at all surprised at his rise. Knows his footy inside out, communicates well, and is unbelievably driven to succeed. That said, really can't see Roo's first big move being to sack Sando mid-contract to bring in Brendan Bolton.

With all due respect, talking over Clarko mid season for a few games is hardly not surprising that he didnt do ok.

How would we know if Bolton will be good, the proof of the pudding is in the eating, no matter who we appoint. We don't need a high profile coach, we need the best coach out there.

But that is a subjective assessment initially which will not be able to be determined till the end of our season next year.
