I agree Sando wasn't the right man, just dint want to replace him with another "not the right man"
Yeah but - every year, only one coach wins. There's lots of "not the right men" out there. If you know the one you've got isn't the one - time to move on to the next schmuck. Its like Edison with the electric light bulb... 10,000 failed attempts. What did he say? "I'm one step closer to succeeding".

Clarkson could quite easily justify his TFS denial if he ended up coming over.
Hell, most have forgiven Buddy already and he might cost them a flag. People move on rather quickly.
I guess he could justify it but that doesn't explain why he would do it in the first place.

and no they haven't forgiven buddy anymore than we have forgiven tippett. lets not just start making stuff up.

I can already here it coming from in the distance if we get pretty well anyone other than Clarkson and maybe Longmire too..

"Why did we bother sacking Sando just for him. We should have kept Sando"

I have my facepalms ready..
you wont hear it from me, ive wanted sanderson gone all year.

Well that's true.... to a point. I think the issue with coaching is as much about circumstance as ability. Malthouse did nothing at Footscray, took West Coast to two flags, took 10 years to grab a flag at the Pies and will likely retire without a flag at Carlton. Is he a good coach? Who knows? How much of an influence did he have on West Coast? Who knows - they had a state team I reckon I could have coached. How much of his work can you attribute Collingwood's flags to? Who knows - 10 years is an average premiership cycle for a rich club. Sheedy gets what 2 flags in 20+ years at Essendon. Was he a good coach? Who knows? Hafey got flags for the Tiges during their golden era, but failed at three other clubs. Was he a good coach? Everyone says so, but he failed at three clubs.

We just need the right coach. A guy who can work with the players and get the best out of them. Judging a coach by premierships is disingenuous in my opinion. Too many variables. Sando could not work with the players or get the best out of them, so he goes. I have no problem with that, but judging the next guy on premiership success is flawed logic.

so is anyone watching the gf press conference? the first question was by rucci asking about the crows job, classic rucci!

I'm not sure I'd be happy if we got Ratten, but you only need to look at his record to see why he's far better than some seem to think.

He began halfway through 2007, and they ended up finishing 15th. Carlton then kept on improving each year and finished 5th in 2011. Lots of injuries happened in 2012, after they went 5-2 in the first seven rounds. They finished 10th. Then he got axed.

Carlton didn't need to sack him. One bad year and he was out. They knew Malthouse was available and thought he'd be the messiah to take them to a flag. We all know how this turned out.

Very underrated, is Ratten.

and this is why its also about how you win and where you are improving

our fitness has gone backwards, our game plan is not evolving and our skill level is poor and we are losing unlosable games at home

I reckon there's a fair amount of forgiveness based on his efforts in 2008. Do they like it? No. But when they have that reunion he'll be welcomed with open arms.

are you kidding me? he had his hand well and truly forced.

I know you're arguing about how definitive it seemed but what would you expect? We're not talking about Dangerfield or Tippett making comments in the off season a year out from their contracts expiring... we're talking about a head coach 2 days away from a Grand Final!!! It HAD to be definitive or he may as well have handed the cup to Sydney. The fact Jarman dropped the bomb with the grace of an orangutan has probably already done enough damage to their chances as it is.

Dont see the issues people have with Ratten. He did pretty well with a rubbish list which has been validated by the last couple of years of Supercoach Malthouse. He has been in amongst the Hawks system for a few years and would no doubt have benefited from that. Is he the guy I want ?? Im not actually sure who I want at this stage TBH because each candidate mentioned here have their strengths and weaknesses.

What I do want however is a guy who can galvanize the group and get them playing a style of footy that can get results with the squad they have at their disposal. A guy that when he speaks people want to listen instead of a guy who uses stats to back up their arguements, above all I want the guy who our "New Crows" board believe is the man to take us back to the top. So if its not a big name who cares, we back them in to do a good job........ until we are 1-10 and the knives are out haha

ive said it a hundred times...I wouldn't expect him to address the fans directly. I understand he has to deny and said he would deny it before the interview even started. the above quote you put in bold was in reference to addressing the fans to their face on national tv.

First question in the pre-Grand Final press conference was Rucci asking Clarkson about the rumours again. Clarko looked quite pissed off and over it.

Just Rucci stirring the pot as usual, utter flog.

Interesting that Rucci would pen an article in the Tiser today reiterating Clarkson not coming, then still ask about it at the presser. Total knob.

That is true. Premierships are not the be all and end all for determining coaches worth. However an overall win/loss ratio should be taken into account. Eg. Ross Lyon has yet to win a premiership but I think he's just about the best in the business

Rucci - no class whatsoever.

What he doesn't realise is, on a national scene his antics aren't seen as 'clever' like his Port sycophants here think, they are just embarrassing for the whole state.
