I call bullshit! The best decisions almost always were unpopular at the time!

Classic example is Hawthorn and Clarkson. Their board were also ruthless, promised the best of the best, sacked their coach and appointed Clarkson over much more fancied Gary Ayers at the time. Who is laughing now!

I am not a Norwood fan and I am far from a boys club fan myself. I have screamed in the past and was against getting former club legends or players to stick around in token jobs. Robran, Hart, Smart, Bickley...the list goes on!

But I want Bassett for the simple reason that he has it. He is a bloody good coach and will be someone's coaching legend in the AFL. I want us to get our legend. The fact that he is our former player or South Australian has sweet **** all to do with it. I want him because he has the ability and character to be the best coach this team has had and yes I include Blighty in that.

If we don't get Bassett, in 4-5 years time we will be bumping this thread and asking ourselves why didn't we do it back then. Just like we are asking ourselves the same question with Clarkson
Call bullshit all you like, the legend of Bassett grows by the minute with false god adoration. A Bassett appointment won't even get near the expectation that's out there at the moment, although Bassett must be the new guy because Rowie says we'll all be very excited by the new coach if it's the one he's been hearing. I won't be excited at all. That said, if he happens to win us a premiership, I'm happy to take all the 'i told you so.'s' in the world.

Good idea Slippery Pete. We have nothing to worry about. We got this. Just think of this until the announcement......

Who is that?

Get me across something, folks. Why would Brett Ratten be seriously in this conversation?

He was sacked from Carlton for very specific and legitimate reasons. Firstly, and probably most importantly he had no game plan. Secondly, he had a team full of early draft picks. Thirdly, and probably most disturbingly, he had an abysmal record in finals. Carlton lost a number of unloseable finals under Ratten, and only one won final in his six years at the helm. ONE FINAL IN SIX YEARS! Makes Craigy look like Leigh Matthews.

The other image of Ratten from his coaching days I'll never forget, is him sitting on the bench barracking for his team like he was on his tenth frothie in Bay 13.

But aside from all that, look at his record. It's worse than Sanderson's. And not just a bit worse. Significantly worse.

So why? Somebody please catch me up. What the **** is it about Brett Ratten that people are even considering him for the head job? Explain to me in great detail why this wouldn't be a retrograde step.

Experience in the hawks setup. Better the second time around. Performance looks better than malthouse with the same squad. I think as a senior assistant would be considered but not the top job

Not at all confident we'll get Clarkson after yesterday...he seems too entrenched at Hawthorn. We'd have to be offering a significant pay rise to get him over...

I have one thing to say

Darren Lehmann

SA could have had him as State coach. Refuse to do it, he goes to Qld and has success. Now he's Aust coach and we've seen what he's been able to do

I don't know if Bassett is the right person, but I just feel it could be Darren Lehmann all over again

The best of the best as stated by the club. Bass ain't that. The AFC has been talking the talk, and unfortunately I'm expecting to see it not be able to walk the walk. I don't see the point of getting Bassett as the senior coach. Nobody can predict if he'd even be an improvement on Sando, who without the Tippett crap and Tex's injury and the captain out for a year would have been coaching a team to 3 successive finals campaigns.

I wonder if they already have their man and are now linning up assistant coaches or a senior assisant coach.

Or they have nether?

We currentilly still have 4 (Campo, bickley, clarke and Milburn) on the pay roll, so I doubt we are looking at getting new assistant line managers. We need more hiring and firing going on and then getting ready for trade week.

Hopefully this is not drsagged out for another week or 2.

Bassett is my tip but it could be anyone.

The club has said they are after the coach who can win us a premiership. I think you're confusing what they club has been saying with Rowie.

Give me some names. I reckon you're going to chuck a tantrum if it is anyone except Clarkson.

Nobody can predict whether Clarkson would be able to replicate his success here.

All but one of the premiership coaches in the last decade were rookie coaches when they joined their club. The one that had 'proven success' took ten years to get a flag (would you give Clarkson until 2025?), and took his team to second last twice.

Is Bolton a little too enthusiastic for people's liking?

Nobody could be that happy all the time...
He's like Elaine's boyfriend who was so eager to please he took the Seinfeld parents on a trip to the museum
