And if that Club he turned around was South or West who have been traditional and cultural basket cases compared to the likes of Norwood with their culture and resources I'd rate the achievement higher again.

I think Bass is one of the few State league coaches that can take the next step. But it's a massive jump. He needs more years in the AFL coaching system.
its a massive jump between assistant coach and head coach too. One that phil walsh hasn't successfully made yet. How many SANFL clubs has walsh turned around again?

Walsh maybe....Left field, maybe Bass hasn't been asked to present a 2nd time because the 1st was good enough?
Rucci in the rag this morning reckons Bass didn't get the job because he won his premierships at Norwood with a defensive game and the Crows have to appoint a coach that will have an entertaining game style so that the 19th man can be appeased.
Crikey, the BS that man prints!
Incidentally, he has an alter ego on the 'tiser blogs called 'Kym'. Get over there and have a go at him. He slags off the Crows after every article Rucci vomits into that online paper.
Ha ha id that right. Is that the guy with the wolf creek avartar. He pretty much tripples everyone's posting in nearly every crows related blogs. Sad, pathetic guy if it us Ruc.

As for the coach, forget the non-gettables, to be honest walsh would have been my second prefernce behind Bassett. I just hope we don't lose bassetts football IQ to another club.

This thread is sad.

It's Clarkson - all hail the messiah!
It's Bolton - all hail the up and coming project, great choice.
It's Bassett - excellent time to build a dynasty with a Crow who can build clubs.
It's Walsh - yeeessss the absolute best for the job ever, lol Port.

Seriously half the people here would eat shit if it had Crows coloured sprinkles.

No one wanted Bolton.

Clarkson, Bassett or Walsh are all popular choices. People are lukewarm about Dew.

The AFC haven't said it was Clarkson, Bolton, Bassett or Walsh so this has nothing to do with Crows coloured sprinkles but the opinions of individuals.

he hasn't needed to, he's been universally considered within the AFL as one of the best assistant and strategic game day coaches for more than 10 years. Bassett did a good job at Norwood but he is still an eccentric character, whom if you ever hear Roo talk about him, has some polarizing traits that is a work in progress. Too much is made of turning around a SANFL powerhouse club.

Assuming Bass stays with the Dons to see out his contract, we need to be first in line to get him back to SA in 2 years.

Rowey , I still think Bassett will get it

See there ain't any strength to any media!

Fact is, the board is a vault!!!

No body knows for sure what is happening that goes through the media, the PG & all the leakers

Hats off ! But the club needs to make it forgivable with the selection

Rowey is making shit up for ratings. Like I said posts before I still think Bass will get it.

If the general BF consensus ran the club for the last 3-4 years, we'd be in much better shape.

Mind you, that's not saying much. We're a rabble.
2 things come from that.
Yes might be a rabble and it certainly comes across like that in Melbourne as I reported before. We are not considered in favourable terms by anyone who's anyone there. That was evident by the comments from certain players that were in the Toyota box at the GF.
But we now have I believe people in place or nearly in place to fix that.

But the other comment about clubs being run by the fans is a no no iMHO. My brother who has a long standing association with West Adelaide FC remembers and it still goes on with different cliques trying to get their person in top jobs. It doesn't work. You must have the right people in the right positions and that must not be allowed to be a popular voting system.

FFS delusions of grand eau much.

What we have here an internet forum for one club with say around current 200 members at a stretch. Yet the football club has over 50,000 members most who wouldn't even know that this even in existence. But 90% of 50K plus want Bassett?

Get a grip on reality man.
Great reply, so many BF members don't have a grip on reality at any time!

Look, I think Bassett might make an AFL coach one day but please tell me who is the last coach to do a good job, not win an AFL Premiership, but just a good job with no or little AFL Assistant experience?

Voss no experience, Hird no experience, Buckley one year assistant have all been recent failures. So has ANYONE done a good job? I can't think of one so Bassett was always a long shot.

this is really what it comes down to and I couldn't disagree more.
IMO too much is made of being an assistant at AFL level. I think previous head coaching success at the next level down is just about the best data you could possibly have when making this incredibly tough decision. Im pretty sure it would be a pretty standard recruiting method for most sports in the world in every country. But apparently the AFL leads the world in this regard because they have worked out that sitting next to someone awesome makes you awesome too.

Take out Clarko who has a State league flag, how many others are there. Those as assistants to AFL programs who coach in the VFL don't count.

I've often thought that Hawthorn are a cliquish rabble who's fans have been far too stupid to vote in a strong board.

Not seeing the success that having a ruling class has led us to.
