I'm even more convinced now that Walsh is the man. Seems to have something of a hard edge and without doubt has a brilliant tactical brain. As long as he doesn't over-complicate things, he'll be a very good coach. Put a good assistant team around him and watch out.

Interesting reaction on the Poort board, by the way. It's either 'they're hiring their version of a Hinkley, they have to copy us to turn themselves around', 'he's only moving because the Camries are offering a 7 figure contract', 'i'll piss myself when he's unemployed in 3 years' or 'what a fail. they wanted a 'premiership coach' and now have someone untried. LOOOOOL'.

Let's say it's walsh. Which doesn't excite me.

Go back to Sando, who also is doesn't excite me as a coach

Port put Alan Rochardson/Phil Walsh, Burgess and apparently Matthew nicks is more highly rated as coach than player, around Ken Hinkley.

The first 2 have been seen to be good enough to be head coaches.

What did we give Sando? A bunch of assistants that no one cares about (including us), and some no name fitness guy.

Not exactly a great opportunity to success in comparison is it. And I say that as someone who never rated Sando that highly.

When was the last time any of our assistants got any buzz about them? If no one else wants them why do we?

Port for example has been a factory for turning assistabts into senior coaches

I would rather a good player from us go to Saints, Bullies or Demons than a top 8 Club.

That's what makes Essendon so hard to trade with, they have this unwritten policy not to trade to contenders ..... hence they will push Port as far as they can.

It was ludicrous to hand Gunston 2 flags, blind Freddy could have seen that coming.

Its ridiculous to think the Club doesnt have a similar philosophy.

Its why we should put in a bid for Ryder as well, it cannot hurt.

They'll eat their own at the slightest hint of "defection"/association with us.

It's beautiful.

If it is indeed to be Walsh, the guy is going to be the most loved coach to take over the reigns, with the exception of Blighty. That could be both a blessing and a curse.

Walsh Head coach with Bolton and ROK? 1 coach from PA, HAW, SYD. 3 of the top 4 teams. Sounds like smart thinking.

You are spot on here. The only thing is though, that apparently Sando himself refused to change the people around him. If this is truly the case then he didnt really do much to help himself.

IIRC he had the option of letting Bickley go right at the start and that was the start of his problems by keeping him on.

I've always wondered whether he truly wanted the assistants he inherited or whether he said what he said to protect the club from criticism because the higher-ups weren't willing to open the wallet.
