He's got some guts, that's for sure. He's also straddled quite well until now the delicate balance of trying to hold open discussion with Putin while also keeping a pathway open to ultimately see his country join the west. Not bad for a guy whose background is as an actor and comedian. His only previous political "experience" before he got elected was playing the President of Ukraine in a tv series.

Audio has emerged that is purported to have captured an exchange between Ukrainian border guards on Snake Island and an approaching Russian navy vessel, in which a Russian officer told the Ukrainian forces on the island to “lay down your weapons”.

“This is a military warship. This is a Russian military warship. I suggest you lay down your weapons and surrender to avoid bloodshed and needless casualties. Otherwise, you will be bombed,” the Russian office was recorded as saying on a naval radio channel.

After a short period of silence in the recording, a Ukrainian officer reportedly responded: “Russian warship, go **** yourself.”

Brave as it gets. There’s a video of an old Ukrainian lady going up to Russian soldiers with a handful of sunflower seeds asking them if they can put them in their pockets so that when they’re killed the flowers will grow from their corpses. Lol. They’re just built different over there.

NATO bases right next to Russia?

Really?

Who knew that stealth bombers needed to be ‘next door to Russia’.

We are not in he Napoleonic era where by you need to have ground troops in the geographical area.

You sure are good at pushing Russia’s line with bullshit outdated military theories. There is a reason the Russians are using large amounts of AirPower, missiles and indirect long range fires; that is, you do not need to be geographically located near your opponent.

So which is it? NATO is too close, but Russia is predominantly using non ground forces from stand-off ranges?

With the amount of damage missiles can inflict and how fast they travel I dunno why Putin would be worried about a potential enemy having several bases chock full of them on his border. What advantage could they possibly give his potential enemies?

Not condoning what Putin did, but you’ve got to admit, he’s competent. He dismantled Ukraines ability to strike back brilliantly. It’s terrible but it’s pretty impressive from an unemotional judgment of what the Russians achieved.

Let’s see how he is in two weeks when the whole country is in an insurgency and the body bags of their troops are going home.

So long as Ukraine doesn’t give up this will go on for a long time.

Of course this is a terrible thing, but really what else was Putin gonna do? He didn't really have any option. NO Russian leader could tolerate NATO bases on the border and expect to keep their job. They might even get shot if they did.
