Yeah, problem is they have plan B which is treat it like a proper military operation, which in Russia means flatten everything in your path with artillery.
The maximum size of that paratroop battalian is 35K. Aren't there sposed to be 100,000+ troops involved.

My partner interviewed young Yazidi women who had been imprisoned as sex slaves by ISIS foreign fighters.
A Kurdish general was generous enough to accommodate us with their forces inside an abandoned school about 2km from the frontline because he wanted the west to know what they were up against.
It was one of the very few parts of my professional life where I wasn't doubting why I was there or whether what I was doing mattered.

(I'm happy to give you the detailed version in person during the H&A season)

Christ mate. That's crazy. Glad you're safe here though!

900 people in a country of over 40 million

It's like saying we deserve to be invaded cos these folks exist;

Its more than 900 people. At least 2500 fighting members in 2017.

Also - they are just the most well known of those nationalist militias, some others are also in the national guard and there are more that are basically gangs of nazi thugs. But the worst thing is their influence. In the Ukraine they use martial arts training and other youth kind of things for grooming the way Jihadists used Islamic schools. they've faced their own war crimes and CAH allegations and they actually hold up Brenton Tarrant as a hero.

Regardless of the rights and wrongs of the invasion its problematic as **** that the Ukrainian National Guard has a unit that claims to be far right wing, nationalistic and led by a nazi racist.

Its not like they're a bunch of campaigners following Blair Cotterell around till he eventually gets locked up again, they armed, funded and paid by the government.

Who would’ve thought that Ukraine would beat Russia at propaganda? Apparently they’re winning the cyber war as well.
Are you serious? They've got the Us on their side. Some of the people reading this probably still believe Putin was somehow responsible for Trump being elected.

Do you remember all those times I posted that discussion paper "From Psy-Op to Mindwar"? The anti Russian propaganda in this war seems really heavily influenced by it.

Will be interesting to see if when this all settles NATO changes their tune on membership and hurries up the process. How long has Ukraine been seeking membership? 20 years off and on?
For most of that time most Ukrainians were against it. Even tho they wanted to join the EU. All that changed after 2014 tho.

Stalin was our guy when it counted though.

Also, very cool when he was young.

Look at his eyes.

Yeah but there’s just that uncomfortable thing where he killed at least 20 million people.
Everyone did that.

I knew guys in the SAS during the SE Asian "Emergency" and then Vietnam. One of them once described what he did as "like what the nazi's did". It basically involved killing shitloads of commies and shitloads more people who weren't commies but if push came to shove and it was them or us they'd fight with the commies and bring alot of people with them because they were unionists and nationalists and the like and people trusted them.

That's generations of leadership gone. Same in south and central America and parts of Africa. Its what Breviek tried to do in Norway.

Wipe out a generation of lefty leaders.

Its a pretty disgusting game of comparison because at some point you have to realise the numbers are always in the tens of millions and the ideology doesn't matter. None of them is innocent and there are good guys.

I find it very hard to concentrate on his eyes when he has the most incredible hair of any genocidal mass murderer ever.
If you're ever in a successful revolution and there is someone walking around with eyes like that ... its probably worth shooting them straight away cos its only gonna be a matter of time till they start on everyone.

Pretty cool hair tho.

To beat the Nazis. They were allies till Hitler turned on him and probably cost the Nazis the war. Weird move to be honest.
They were never allies deep down tho. Commies and Nazis hate each other and always did. They still do. That was always gonna happen I reckon. Hitler probably thought at some point it was whoever struck first that would win.

But Germany and Russia united would be as powerful as anything the world has seen ... its basically all of Europe covered. And the entire North of Asia.

That gas pipeline might have been a step along that road too. Won't be happening for a while now.

It’s for a different thread tbh. The weird part is that Starlin didn’t trust anyone but he trusted Hitler.

History is full of men like Hitler and Starlin so to think it just doesn’t happen anymore is foolish. That’s why when we discuss the motivation of people like Putin I don’t think we can rule out that the power has gone to his head. Absolute power corrupts absolutely and Putin is no exception.

Look at his eyes.

I can't actually look at his eyes here.

There's plenty about what's been happening in Ukraine that you and I probably won't ever agree on ferbs, and that's okay. But you are spot on about Stalin's eyes in this pic. It was the first thing I thought when I looked at it. They're dead. There's just an utter blackness inside them. And it actually makes me have to look away.

"One of Russia’s last independent news outlets TV Rain has stopped broadcasting indefinitely after coming under pressure for its coverage of Ukraine.

The channel, also know as Dozhd, ended its final broadcast by showing staff walking off set on Thursday.

Russia's telecommunications regulator accused the channel of "inciting extremism, abusing Russian citizens, causing mass disruption of public calm and safety, and encouraging protests".

'TV-Rain and Ekho Moskvy were forced to halt broadcasting. On Thursday, the next blow for independent journalists followed: The board of directors of Ekho Moskvy decided to shut the station down for good.

"It's unbelievable," said Tamina Kutscher, editor-in-chief of award-winning website Dekoder, which translates reports by independent Russian media into German.

Ekho Moskvy has reached millions of people in many regions of Russia since 1990, she said, but "even Ekho is not untouchable."

"We called a war a war, and not a 'special military operation,'" Plushev said. "I was doing so till my last broadcast. I know that the guys who worked in the morning programs did the same."

Now, after more than three decades of independent reporting, Ekho Moskvy no longer exists.

"The number of independent media is getting smaller every day," Resch said.

Kutscher told DW that a "thick carpet of disinformation and propaganda" has been covering Russia since the beginning of the fighting in eastern Ukraine in 2014. What's going on right now, she said, is not a new development.

But since Moscow invaded Ukraine a week ago, the situation has become much worse for Russian independent media.

"I don't even want to imagine what else we can expect," Kutscher said. "With this increasing escalation of the war that we're seeing right now, where the aggression is getting harsher, bloodier and more violent, the repression inside [of Russia] is also increasing. The two go hand in hand."

The Russian people do not deserve to be shut out from the rest of the world because of Putin's dangerous and deluded path. More and more of them will turn against him, especially of the younger generations, who've been more connected to the outside world, and those already out in the streets protesting. And that is only a good thing.

You know you're a global pariah when even the pr0n industry opts out.

And this is unity consciousness, not distorted empire building. Putin is the last of a dying breed. He will be defeated by the people. That is, unless one or more of his KGB thug oligarchy "friends" doesn't kill him first.

Make no mistake, Putin will not win this. It will be long, bloody, and there will be great loss. But the Ides of March are coming.
