If he isn’t fit then I’d like to see Hardie come in to bat at 6. Smith takes Green’s no.4 spot, Marsh at 5. Head up to open.

Alternatively Carey could bat at 6 and Hardie at 7.

It is a five Test series so you need some handy seam overs to be bowled in conjunction with Gary to give the three frontline quicks (Cummins, Hazlewood and Starc) a chop out.

I have a theory, and it's entirely based on gut feel because I can't be arsed researching it, but I'm calling it the Curse of the Prodigal Scorcher. It goes like this:

• No name/minor player signed by the Scorchers
• Starts playing very, very well
• Subsequently leaves the Scorchers for more money elsewhere
• Is never as good a player again

I've been thinking about it a lot looking at Livingstone's series.
