What do people see as the long term plan with Goad?

X is probably our best player (or at least our most important) so what role do we see Goad playing in the future? I haven’t seen any signs of forward ability.

X is not a good ruckman, Goad isn’t as physical but should be much better at giving first use and eventually providing an option around the ground

Trialled a few through the midfield today. Including RHJ and Banch !

I’d say Clarko is looking for players who want it to replace the current duds in the AFL midfield
That Banch one is interesting. Certainly runs hard and to the right spots, undersized, yes, but even at AFL level now it is mostly about being able to cover ground and apply pressure successfully. As long as he isn't brushed off in tackles it might be interesting to see if he can bring some defensive running to the middle. RHJ same, but he is way, way too light and pushed off in the contest still.

Kind of agree to an extent, don't get me wrong he is a hard at it, hard working bastard who always puts in a shift and vaguely competent midfields would be feasting off his work at another club.

Will Phillips with the 50 for dissent
Players have something to say to the umps all the time, who was the last team where a game was decided on the umps hurt feelings? He could give a warning, he could speak to him after the game, end of the day he wanted to award the game to the Cats.

It was such enjoyable day watching a close game @ Arden Street.
Standing in the rain like the old days.
I was behind the interchange.
Could hear the coach Lynch’s instructions.

All well known players, Wardlaw, Phillips, & Scott. Really committed for a win.

Payne, Whitlock, Tomilson play well.

9 touches for Fisher in the 2s doesn’t read well at all.

Please tell me this wasn’t in 4 quarters of footy???

He for one should be taking vfl games apart and standing up when games are on the line like today.

You thought that was bad, bailey Scott had 2 touches to half time

4 to 3 quarter time

Finished with 10 playing wing

Compared to fish half forward

So I apologise in advance because I retired at half time with sodden feet and a wet beanie, which I admit is not Shinboner standard, and although I streamed the rest of the game at home, I'll concentrate on what I saw at the ground in the first half.

Goad was an interesting one, because in one sense it's the best I've seen him play against an AFL ruck. Unfortunately he had to work his way back into the game after getting a bit of a bath in the first quarter - Toby Conway really dominated in the second part of the first quarter and that dominance contributed significantly to Geelong getting to what proved a match winning lead by quarter time. But credit to Goad, he kept fronting up and he had to because the 'relief' ruck was James Tarrant, who's no one's idea of a ruckman. Goad kicked a good goal in the wet from a tricky ground ball get and did more in general play than I've seen before

Brayden George on a wing was interesting - found plenty of it while it was dry, and worked hard between the arcs; let himself down with some sloppy disposals in the last part of the 1st, and then faded a bit when it got wet. Still, something to work with in that role

Of course the forward line was led by two 19 year olds, so credit there for sure. Trembath might be 19, but he's a unit in that 190-193 third tall role, something like Mihocek or Membrey. I got burnt by my enthusiasm for Tyler Sellers, but Trembath is solid through the hips and thus hard to shift in a pack, and has good hands above his head. Can't see why they'd take him mid season and then let him go after a performance like this.

I've seen Whitlock play down back, and been impressed with his composure, ball in hand. Up forward, he's mobile, gets to good spots and shows some craft - in the second qtr, kept his man out of the drop of the ball to allow Payne to take an uncontested mark. The goals speak for themselves as his best game to date.

Payne is a goer, no doubt about it. Whether there's a point of difference I'm not sure, but he can go forward and to the centre square, and with Konstanty struggling for impact, Payne is certainly worth a shot - he won't let anyone down for want of effort

Urqhart started half forward and contributed to some nice passages, and certainly was more noticeable in that role than he has been in the centre square.

Phillips was good again, at this level, so to speak. Lynch sang Wardlaw's praises post-match, and he did some nice things, but in all honesty he wasn't a stand out for mine. Still, if they want continuity in his game, they've got some.

Ford was great in the backline - knows where to go to defend/intercept and uses it neatly. I know spots are at a premium, but I'm not opposed to 12 months as depth.

Disappointing result for sure, gave them too much of a start in that 1st quarter, but some nice signs

^ Just on Trembath, a mate spoke to Trembath after training a week ago and he said 'the club's long-term plans for him is as a forward.' So it sounded like he would possibly get another year.

"The Trembath"...is that how Cooper refers to himself?......
