Hipwood is hardly a gun. Despite the early promise, I think a lot of people have woken up to how ordinary he is.
I wouldn't compare Neale with him if I wanted to prove a positive point. :)
I think the point was more how quickly the standards have shifted for him.

Four months ago, many in the AFL world didn't rate him, and we had plenty on here who thought he wouldn't make it.

Being compared to a Darcy Fogarty or Hipwood would've been a complement back then, and he's already kicked more goals than those two ever have, in his first full season of footy.

4 months later, he's now in the "Yeah, we know he's good, but he's not as good as Darcy or Thilthorpe" - and granted, that's true.

Still though, it's a fair jump to go from being compared to spuds/good solid players and that being the bar, to suddenly being next in line after two generation prospects in terms of young KPF's all within the same year.

And if we're going to criticize the hell out of guys who are 20 years old, then those kids deserve a mountain of praise for kicking 40 odd goals in a season as 23 year olds, especially when playing alongside absolute goal-fiends like Cameron.

I'd be interested to know the last few players who've kicked 40+ in a season at 23 or younger.

Edit* Looks like Treacy, Georgiades, Ugle-Hagan, Naughton, Amiss etc. Pretty good company.

Not just a great kick for goal also our best field kick in 2025 is Shannon Neale.
Seems to have a higher than average threat rating to his kicks which makes his club high retention score meaningful.

No surprises with Blicavs and Stanley bringing up the rear. Always have been an iffy kickers.

CD ratings on wheelo site.

It's worth mentioning that Shannon Neale, as a TWENTY-THREE YEAR OLD, and sharing the forward line with the COLEMAN MEDALIST, is THIRTEENTH in the competition for most goals this season.

Let that sink in.

The kid has kicked more goals than Walker, Fritsch, Curnow, Hipwood, Bolton and many others.

This kid is the real deal.

Neale before your God.

Was looking at how Sam Darcy has gone since he returned from injury, and he's kicked 34 goals in the 10 games since then (he returned in Round 14).

As a comparison, Neale has kicked 29 - and we also had a bye in Round 17, so he's played one less game than Darcy in that period.

You then look at their partner in crime - Jezza has kicked 41 goals in that time. Naughton's kicked 39 in one more game.

Combined, Jezza and Neale have combined for 70 goals in 9 games. Naughton and Darcy with 73 in 10.

Ugh those years we had so many tough bastards. Selwood, Chapman, Rooke, Ling, Hunt, Scarlett, Corey, Bartel... There were so many games in those days where you just knew there was zero chance of losing. We're all so lucky for having experienced it. It was like every game of footy was an episode of Superman where the good guys always win.

Mods: does anyone know what happened to Mr Meow? They've been suspended for weeks now... Are they done for good?
I'm kind of slipsliding my way to a permaban by interacting with too many "Geelong are rorting" mouthfoamers on the main board. Calling one a bitter flog got me 3 weeks this time. I probably need someone to step in for me on that front soon as I do feel there's a bit of "lay the bait then mash the report button" about it. My words there are far less harsh than another Cats supporter on the main board, although I love their work and respect their ability to get away with it!

Oh, welcome back.

New addition to the Lexicon, "It ain't over until" series..
E.g. It ain't over until the fat lady sings.

It ain't over until you're eating Souvlaki on the bench.

Let them believe what they want.
Geelong is either working to the rules better than others, or they're shady.
Until exposed, I have no reason to believe the club is doing the wrong thing.

Some people are simply best ignored. They're venting out of envy.
One day, Geelong will go down the ladder and these same people will still be miserable, because they'll turn on somebody else.

Geelong Cats welcome Andrew McDonald to Board of Directors

Geelong Cats are pleased to confirm the appointment of Andrew McDonald to its Board of Directors
---
Geelong Cats are pleased to confirm the appointment of Andrew McDonald to its Board of Directors.

In joining the Board, McDonald brings with him over 10 years experience coaching in high performance organisations, including seven years with Cricket Australia.

As head coach of the Australian men’s cricket team across all formats since 2022, McDonald has been at the helm leading the team to win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India, the ICC World Test Championship for the first time, retaining the Ashes in England, and securing a stunning victory in the ODI World Cup November 2023.

Prior to his role with the Australian team, McDonald coached Victoria to two Sheffield Shield titles in three seasons in charge, as well as leading the Renegades to its first BBL championship.

McDonald’s association with the Cats dates back to 2016, having built a connection with Chris Scott to share ideas and information with both continually seeking professional growth.

Based in Geelong, McDonald’s appointment has been endorsed by the Club’s Board, and he will commence in the role immediately.
Geelong Cats President Grant McCabe welcomed McDonald to the Board.

“Andrew is a perfect fit to join our Board, he brings an outstanding skill set and global experience in overseeing and shaping high performance environments delivering exceptional results,” McCabe said.

“As a Club we have a passion for the relentless pursuit of progress, and alongside our existing Directors, Andrew’s perspective and expertise in performance will play an important role as we continue to evolve, grow and chase success.”

McDonald said he was excited to join the Board and looking forward to contributing to the Club in this role.

“I am extremely excited to accept the invitation to join the Board of the Geelong Cats. The opportunity to work with, and contribute to, an organisation that seeks constant improvement in its performance across all facets is extremely motivating for me,” McDonald said.

“I have always had a real passion for AFL football. The game is dynamic on and off the field, and I’m looking forward to playing my role on the Board. To contribute to a club with such a proud history and strong values, with a commitment to continual growth, is a privilege.”

When I become AFL overlord my first act is banning bags.

If you can't attend without needing a backpack for the kids or a handbag. Stay home and stop holding me up.

If you can't figure out your mobile ticket within 5-10 seconds it's revoked. Couch for you, sunshine. If you've got multiple on one phone for all your kids. Home for you, buddy.

But there is a seperate line for bags.. we don't hold you up at all??

Yep, the outside lines at every gate at every stadium are for those without bags

If you're without a bag and can't work out how to use those lines, then maybe those are the folk who shouldn't be attending 😜

Plus, if all stadiums introduced the facial recognition technology it would mean no more needing to scan tickets on your phone - simply scan the face of the account holder & it details how many tickets are attached to that account. Perfect for families or groups with multiple tickets on one phone as you only need to scan one person for 4 or 5 to enter

Zero tolerance.
They're goners under my regime. Not needed at football games.

You're being harsh. They could at least release training videos for people to study online before arriving at the venue.

Well I guess this is the thread for it. I'm so ****ing sick of the music during every dead second of the game. I actually enjoy opposition goals because it means I don't have to listen to 12 seconds of a song and can soak up the MCG atmosphere. People will survive with a second of down time. **** me.

I was in the line at wet n wild A month back had everything ready for scanning in with the Fam.
In front of us was some stupid instagram Facebook poster Mum.
Lady came out and said to everyone get you tickets ready and she walked down the line and checked everyone’s tickets.
Got to stupid Instagram Mum and asked her for there tickets.
She was scrolling and flicking and going into emails. 10 minutes later gates open and she dragged her to the side with there 5 kids. We all passed her having a chuckle.

Everyone else was smart enough to be organised and be prepared.

That’s what they should do at footy, have a person going down the line pre warning the dummies to have there tickets ready. And if they can’t pre view them then drag them out of the way.

Speaking of Baz, one of the ladies in my local club spilled that before he'd met his new missus he'd been exploring the local Torquay area, and her daughter had been on some dates with him, and that she's on the spectrum.

Apparently she came back from one of these dates and tells mum "he's worse than I am" [in that regard]. Would explain some of his behaviour and quirks.
