i got made redundant from my job a couple of years ago, the first things i did the next days was go down to the beach and take a long walk to clear my head.
i think it's because you look out and genuinely have no idea what's out there, sure there's water and fish and stuff but it's not like looking over a suburb from a tall building where you know there's people and cars etc.
it holds a certain mystique and may be one of the few things that man kind had never truly worked out, we're still finding long losts ships, massive fish and the occasional prehistoric fish that everyone thought went out 200 mil years ago.
looking out over a surf beach, you feel vulnerable and humbled knowing that if you go in there, you are going to have to show some respect and make a big effort to come back out in one piece, well you know what I mean.
somehow, the ocean has never really changed much, our landscape has and looks a lot different to what it was even 5 years ago but looking out over the ocean could be the same as the view 300-400 years ago, probably longer.
don't think mankind will ever be able to truly tame the ocean, that's the mystery it holds for me anyway.
