She can sing don't get me wrong, but her songs are all a bit "samey". She doesn't have an edge to her music

When a talent dies young they will get hyped I guess that is natural. But she was genuinely regarded as being one of the greatest talents in her field, before she ****ed herself up no end. The fact she was so self destructive just gives her more artistic credit imo.

She died in hospital though - they could have kept it from being announced for a few more hours. Maybe the protocol has changed because apparently her two sons were some of the last people to find out about it in the UK

No doubt she gained some fame because of her death, doesn't take away from her talent though. Whether you want to consider her a great is subjective, as far as modern female artists I'd have her right up there, and definitely above the likes of Adele.
