Girlfriend wanted to watch it, I thought it'd be good. How wrong I was.
Yeah the trailer looked good, but it's pretty crap. Stay away. I don't like James Franco at the best of times (127 hours and Spiderman aside), and in this his character is woefully obnoxious and a giant ass. Stupid jokes and horribly lame ones and that. And some stupid sex/dick jokes as well.

Ah that's fair enough. The trailer looked good, but sadly for me it didn't translate to the full showing.

Just bought The Wire box set. Never watched an episode before and going off everyone's word. Am I in for a treat? How does it rate in comparison to The Sopranos?

There is actually a prison somewhere in Brazil run by the inmates. The writers based Sona prison on it.

You'll probably find it pretty difficult to get into at first (a lot of fans do) but once you give it enough time to get familiar with all the characters it will be well and truly worth it.
Not that great until the last 2-3 eps.
