It's because he's taking advantage of the uneducated masses who listen to sound bites and don't do any sort of research into the claims he makes which are complete crap.

If this was the case Carson would have done a lot better. Trump is just feasting on the bigots.
Maybe, although I find that view too simplistic and something of a head in sand approach. It's why I hate politics - no side can sit down and talk to the other without throwing out insults

What view? That people who support Trump don't do any sort of research? That's exactly it. You ask anyone why they support Trump and they'll say "He says what he means" which is crap, they'll say "He clearly knows how to run a business" which is crap, pretty much the only reason that they can vote for him and not be full of crap is "He's not an establishment politician" which really means two fifths of **** all.

Survey showed that more than 60% of Trump rally goers think Obama's a Muslim. A good quarter believe Rubio isn't born in the US and thus can't run for president

Then you hear them at the rallies and on TV programs and you wonder how many times they were hit on the head as a kid

Can't underestimate the amount of backwards unhinged angry bigoted hicks in the US

Well I don't know the exact situation in America, but if it is similar to over here, then you have a whole load of people who no longer feel they have a voice and are being listened to by the mainstream politicians. They call it the "silent majority" who don't make the noises of those on the left or the right, who are the ones that try and shut down any meaningful debate as it doesn't fit their agendas. Trump is playing to those people, although he has crossed the line at times for me, I can still understand the support he's getting.

I would have thought those people would gravitate more to Sanders than Trump to be honest.

I have no idea what Sanders stands for, and he'd only bag the moderate democrats anyway. Those on the left will go for Hilary, while the republicans on the right will go for trump. Moderate republicans would go for Cruz surely, but it's gonna end up Trump v Clinton.

Really?

He's as anti-establishment as Trump in a lot of ways, but actually has more than a modicum of intelligence and policy that appeal to the masses - your so called silent majority. Free health care and education, bringing America into line with the rest of the modern Western world.

The only people attracted to Trump are the silent majority of the uneducated and unintelligent. Again, you listen to them list their reasons for supporting Trump, and it's nothing that a quick two minute Google search wouldn't reveal as completely false.

No doubt Trump is attracting swathes of bigots, but it's unreasonable to think it's only bigots who are voting for him. That's a ploy by the left which will only serve to push more moderates into voting for Trump. If there's one thing the "unintelligent and uneducated" hate most of all it is to be lectured by and judged as morally inferior by the leftist liberal elite, whose policies they blame for the moral decline and weakening of the west.

I don't think I said only bigots were voting for him, just that they make up a large amount of his supporter base. You just have to look at reports from his rallies to know that.

Not sure how suggesting that Trump is fuelled by bigotry will push moderates to vote for him either, they'll be pushed towards Clinton if anything.

The key issue that I keep coming back to is that these guys don't give a shit about actual policy or what is actually said if they dug beneath the surface. They see Trump making grandiose gestures using simple words and they're hooked. He says things they support and they love him, and they don't listen to him when he distances himself or says the exact opposite of those very things.

I hate to be a Godwin, but you just have to look at the way Hitler swept to power in identical fashion, except Hitler was far, far smarter than Trump could ever pretend to be.

Saw a video online of an interviewer asking Trump supporters if they support what Trump has said, then they read out a statement. The Trump supporters definitely agree with the statement.

Turns out all the statements read out that were "said" by Trump were actually quotes from Hitler.

Did lol.

You laughed at that?

I just shudder.

I did because surely he doesnt get into the white house so its all good.

Five months ago people were saying "Surely he doesn't get the nomination so it's all good."

Back on the film front just briefly.

For the animation fans. Just saw Zootopia. Holy heck, was that awesome! Considering it is a Disney film, it's one loaded bugger of a film. Reminds me a bit about Inside Out in that the trailers weren't so good, but the actual product just being fantastic. The writing in particular is just some very top notch stuff, and the graphics really sell the world, and of course the themes, dealt very well. A very strong addition to the Disney lineup, especially in recent years, all of which have been quality (I'd say up there with Wreck-It Ralph).

My P1 for 2016. There's many more good films to come, but honestly, the bar has been set very high. If you get the chance, give it a shot.

Also, Andrew's Hamburgers, seriously good stuff. Also recommend should you be visiting the Grand Prix this weekend.

Im kinda just anyone but Trump because the guy is a complete moron.

Every man and his dog says this these days but I really disagree tbh, obviously most of his fans are though. I just think Trump seems like he's playing a character and having the time of his life doing it too, plus it's worked almost perfectly for him thus far.

chef WACO is out today! Looking forward to hearing it.
I'm keen!

Annoyed I missed getting s ticket to their upcoming shows, even though I saw them at laneway a month ago.

I woke up feeling a bit dirty after our Trump conversation last night! I didn't particularly want to defend him, but more defend his right to open debate on vexing issues that too many politians avoid touching (although he uses language that is clearly inflammable).

I will say comparing him to Hitler is going too far though. I suspect that is done in jest but you do wonder

Not meant in jest at all, he's using the same tools as Hitler to incite the masses by using the language he does and stirring up resentment and hatred towards the establishment. His target is the Muslims in the same way Hitler used the Jews. I'm not going so far as to suggest Trump plans to round up and slaughter Muslims, but the hallmarks are there pretty painly. Don't think it's going too far at all. Already seen some of his supporters using fascist symbols in fights around his rallies.

I don't think he is opening debate over vexing issues though, since he seems to argue both side of every topic at every debate.
