Judd leaves Eagles

We should go after Gibb's in a year ;)

WCE Site said:
LESS than 48 hours after crashing out of the AFL finals series in straight sets, West Coast has received a hammer blow, with the news that skipper Chris Judd is leaving the club to return to Melbourne.

The club confirmed the news on Sunday afternoon in Perth, saying Judd met with coach John Worsfold and informed him of his intention to return to Melbourne to live closer to his family.
In a statement, the club said it was “extremely disappointed with the decision”.

Judd's manager Paul Connors said Judd was yet to meet with any clubs in Melbourne at this stage.

Judd, 24, was taken by the Eagles at pick three in the 2001 NAB AFL Draft, and has been a standout ever since.

In addition to his 2006 premiership medallion, the 23-year-old has a 2005 Norm Smith Medal, two club champion awards, an AFL Players Association MVP award and has captained West Coast since 2006.

He has been plagued by a groin problem since the middle of 2007, which has meant he's missed four games and requires post season surgery.
A media conference with Eagles chief executive officer Trevor Nisbett and Worsfold will take place on Monday.

Re: Judd leaves Eagles

Adelaides only a 60 minute flight away. Jericho, Hinge, Kenny, Mattner, Modra and 1st rounder for Judd.

He's going home to Melbourne, he wants to never play finals again for a "real football club" (Carlton). It's going to be interesting to see what the Coasters get for him. If they get screwed, it could be the death knell for the Pre-season draft, finally.

Re: Judd leaves Eagles

I hope he goes to the Demons, although I'm guessing he will go to Carlton for Fev and a draft pick

Re: Judd leaves Eagles

It's gonna suck if he does go to Carlton.

If he doesn't he'll be screwing WCE over.

I've got a funny feeling Carlton knew this was going to happen half way through the year...hence why they wanted the #1 pick, even though it's priority it still can be traded. ;)

Judd Cup instead of Kruezer?

Just waiting for the Collingwood fans to come out and say he is only worth a second rounder? That's usually how it works with them doesn't it? :)

Jokes aside which bottom Victorian sides have some gun WA youngsters? Could see anyone with a top 5-6 pick and one or two gun WA youngies as part of the package.

Re: Judd leaves Eagles

Wow.

Fev & #3 I think.

Fev in the WCE jumper next year could deliver them another flag.

See this is all assuming Fev will go over there. I doubt Fevola would want to go over there.

Depends on how Cousins' Hammy pulls up IMO. Could be the beginning of the decline for the Iceman.

That said Kerr, Priddis, Hurn, Braun, Stenglein, Fletcher, Rosa, Embley and co. are hardly slouches.

It's an interesting situation, apparently Judd's groin is so bad he's been seeing an expert from overseas in a bid to save his career. If the highest bidding club gets the Judd of old it's a win no matter what. If they get the Judd of late 2007 then West Coast could laugh all the way to an incredible dynasty.

Re: Judd leaves Eagles

I feel sorry for the Eagles. Will be one of the modern era Greats. Is the best player in the league.
Disagree with feeling sorry for anyone except Judd. The guy was plucked out of his home town, moved across Australia away from family, played his guts out for a club and gave outstanding service. I believe he should be able to nominate his club of choice.

After this service I trust that West Coast will negotiate a trade to a club of his choice. Why should he have to go to Carlton or a similar club and endure the rest of his career in purgatory??

Re: Judd leaves Eagles

I think that is EXACTLY the sort of price that should get it done. ~

this could be a very bad thing or a very good thing for us.

Do you think picks will be what WCE are after though?

With a proven gun forward, they're a Premiership threat for another couple of years, easily.

A couple of picks which may not deliver for a couple of years might not be as appealing.

Well maybe Carlton would be his club of choice? His manager hasn't said that Judd hasn't been in touch with any clubs- but that is bullcrap IMO. It has been rumoured the Carlton have spoken to him and that Carlton is leading the race for him.

Dick Pratt has the financial power to ensure Judd earns around 1.5 million a season (not all necessarily on the books either). Carlton, Collingwood and Essendon hold the financial cards, Richmond the #1 PSD pick and Melbourne the sentimentality.

Be interesting to see who wins out, methinks it'll be the moula however.

Pick 3 + Fev is the perfect trade. Fev is a gun player, one of the best in the comp if his mind is switched on.. when its not... And he has some off field issues. Pick 3 compensates the difference between Fev and Judd- Fev could be up there with Judd but consistency and off field issues hurt him. Not the best attitude at times when things go wrong on the field. He is also 27 next year I think?
Judd is 24, a leader a good character (environmentally friendly as well) and is the best player in the comp. Is in his prime, has 7 years at least in him. Only has an injury worry (IMO it is overhyped- it won't be a career threatening... he'll be back to his best after a good rest.)

Those are the conditions of emplyment.

you've ignored a few things about Fev:
1. the character issue
2. that they've a decent player in his position (lynch)
3. fev's age.
~ ~
most of all
4. that draft picks don't have to agree to move!

who says Fev will agree. Kennedy is a young, rated KPP prospect from Perth. plus a top 3 pick. plus another high pick 20. that's very fair.

and most of all, you have to remember that if Judd doesn't feel WC are being reasonable, he'll be able to rationalise going PSD on them. they'll certainly get the opportunity to do a trade, but if they get arsey Judd can just say no, enough, I'm off. you had your chance.

as i said this could be disasterous for us, or very good.

Terrible for us

all trades are held up, pending the big judd trade. as has happened the last couple of years. this means that as smaller players we may not be able to get much through if this deal goes last minute. *most likely scenario*

very good for us

after the Jeff White scandal, the AFL will scrutinise any contender in the PSD stakes for cap eligibility. which means clubs might be looking to dump salary. there are no salary matching rules in AFL, so clubs might be looking to trade experienced players for picks to create space. which could create opportunities for us to mop up some talent for below normal price.

of course it's rubbish. he must have made this decision some time ago.

players do NOT defer all discussions on their future unless they are considering leaving.
