Think it was a collision involving 2 crows players in D50 where a WC player got caught in between? Didn't look intentional at the time I saw it.
Looked like a Danger/Sloane situation. Two guys going for the ball, Laird got there later and just kinda ran into him. Wasn't a bump or any attempt to take the Eagle player out.

Anyone notice the 1 handed pickup at a center bounce by Curtin, didn’t put his hand under it to scoop it, just put his hand on top like a claw machine.
Got tackled almost immediately but that’s Kouta like.

The efforts by Dawson (all game), Rankine and TT (second half) to try to win the game were obvious, but I have two further little observations.

First, I noted praiseworthy efforts by Bond in the third, who seemed to lift his intensity and show some good physicality and ball retention against the WC forwards. He wanted to win the game.

Second, similarly later in the game, Hinge visibly lifted his efforts and decided that attack was needed with some of his raking kicks to our forwards. You could see him gritting his teeth and wanting to win.

Surely Dowling gets a crack? As sub at least.
We've tried Jones in a few roles since coming on, including as a stopper, but it's just not worked.
I always thought that Jones would make it as he has all the skills to but he can’t put it together. 2 possessions in a half a game is really poor, especially for a guy that’s almost played 100 games!
Big waste of talent!

Good:
  • Taylor - awesome game. At times looked like he was the only one giving it everything.
  • Dawson
  • Rankine at times
  • Filthy at times
  • Not costing ourselves 2 home finals by losing 1 v 18.
  • Pedlar
  • Keane

Bad:
  • O'brien got towelled.
  • Just the performance in general. Laziness, complacency...
  • Murray wasn't good.

Ugly:
  • Burgess - Just no. Never again.
  • Not getting a game into someone we may want/need for finals like Draper or Dowling
  • Jones - Sorry, just not good enough.
Mchenry gave rob votes on 5aa

jones needs a run to get back into it. this is where the sub is terrible.

Laird’s defensive performances are pretty underrated on this board. Similar to Milera’s. He’s not a great user but it’s not a huge issue when he can normally hand it off to someone else to move the ball out of defence. Hard at the contest, great with ground balls, tackles well and can win clearances. Even intercepts well for a player his size. A valuable part of the defensive unit compared to the alternatives, and clearly he’s not throwing the ball on his boot most of the time unless it’s necessary, which is a luxury we have when he’s in defence that he didn’t have in the midfield.

I can certainly see a world where we can improve on that spot but it’s not with the players we have now.

We are 100% playing Burgess if a tall goes down in a final. We won 10 of the past 11 with that structure, we are not changing shit (and notwithstanding our small options have been just as poor)

Today meant nothing in deciding on if we would or wouldn't do that. We needed a warm body, Burgess was a warm body.
I hope not, because we'll get exposed in finals. Just because a structure works with certain players, doesn't mean it will work with others.

And yesterday was the perfect time to try something different and give a kid a game.

West Coast v Adelaide

10 Jordan Dawson ADEL
8 Izak Rankine ADEL
6 Tim Kelly WCE
2 Riley Thilthorpe ADEL
2 Tom McCarthy WCE
1 Reuben Ginbey WCE
1 Mark Keane ADEL

Interesting that both Thilthorpe and Ginbey got votes. Presumably not from the same coach!

So that means one coach (probably Nicks) gave their final two votes to Thilthorpe/Keane, while the other gave them to McCarthy/Ginbey.

Pretty hard to argue about the top 3.
