Well, I disagree that Newcombe tackled or even attempted to. Arms did not go around the body at all, he kind of just ran into him as though he didnt see him, almost exactly the same as laird, except laird didnt hit as hardNewcombe got arms around Howe's body and brought him to ground while he was in possession of the ball
Laird just hit Cripps after he kicked the ball. If that's a tackle attempt he did a really, really bad job of it.
I suspect he wasn't going for the tackle, because he got there too late and hit Cripps after he kicked the ball, so if he tackled him properly it might have been a holding free. It looks like he was trying to apply pressure on the kick, lined him up for a bump (or "running into him" or maybe a push?), and got him high.
I agree but under the current AFL rules they've been banning players all year for high contact like this in bumps

Betts-like Wizardry. Great awareness and extremely clever.

Ginnivan (and other bird-flipping heroes), take a sleazy bow.
Keane has gone another level since Butts then Murray came in. Definitely more suited to not playing the #1 lockdown role as allows him more freedom to leave his opponent & take plenty of marks to repel the opposition attacks.Keane's 5th game in the coaches votes this year, generally picking up 1 or 2. The other players with 5+ games in the votes are Dawson, Thilthorpe, Rankine, Keays, Soligo, Neal-Bullen, Worrell and Laird, which I think looks quite a bit like our top 10 in the BnF, maybe with ROB or Max thrown in. Pretty good spread this year in terms of roles.
Same shit, different bucket ...lol .. Harley Reid
Jones spent most of the game chasing his opponent. Was ineffective.Chance Jones in the negatives is alarming. I was comfortable with him being sub but not anymore after that display. If we have an early injury we are screwed.
He seems to be hiding from the ball again. Let’s find another sub. Nank makes sense if we want flexibility. We all want Draper for impact but he seems to be done for the year.
We don't have a bulletproof profile.
We didn't stay as hot as possible.
TT was double and triple teamed.
There are lessons from every game.
We wouldn't escape against any other team.
Half the problem with Nicks in the past is he doesn't make changes. If our structure isn't holding up in a Final, which is very possible, do you suggest we just stick with it?
Try something different, you never know what gem you uncover.
Just noticed Ben Keays: 6K 2H 2M 3T, gotta be his worst game for a while.
I can't imagine him being complacent or not putting in. He's so intense.
Was he tagged, or heavily marked?

I've seen complacency at many levels of competitive sport but I've never understood it. I always wanted to beat an opponent, whether one-on-one or within a team, no matter who we played.Nah, he was complacent. Most of us were.
Not that I can blame them, first finals series on the horizon and it's round 22 against the worst team in the league.
Interesting; thanks to you both for very different observations. Maybe it was a combo of both?He was heavily marked and thumped at every opportunity.
Quoted you 20 times (I haven’t unless you’re counting replies in which case you’ve done the same) yet you can barely remember the interaction?
What bullshit.
You said in your last post words to the effect that you’ve taken the month to consider your opinion on him and he can **** off and now you’re saying he’s been decent the last few games.
Not sure what your deal is, but lucky not everyone acts the way you do on here from 1 simple question.
I’m out![]()
