I couldn't help my self, I just had to do it...
I looked in and saw the results of some smart thinking and acting. I saw the ashes of last season, the disappointment and disillusionment of coaches, players and supporters. I saw the maturity and foresight that resulted in a comprehensive review of the entire club's operations. I saw some pain near the bottom, but it was becoming part of the lining of a package turning into something bigger and better.
I saw a reinvigorated coach, committed and effective assistant coaches. I saw Sando, the result of some clever poaching. And in Sando I see an inspired and capable right-hand man to Bomber.
I saw Neil Balme, taking on the administrative side of things and introducing the program that gave a massive degree of self-awareness and improvement to the players.
I saw a professional medical and training department that has created a team that can run and play intensely for four full quarters.
I saw 10 games in a row and 12 out of 15 wins for the season.
I saw a committed and focused group of players. I saw toughness, hardness and run combined with creative flair making us one of the most exciting teams playing AFL footy.
But most of all I see success. I'm not saying success at the end of the year necessarily, I mean good decisions leading to good outcomes. I see a team that I can believe in and one that I can really begin to trust. A team that has found an excellent mix of confidence and focus - and gratifyingly, ruthlessness.
Geelong Football Club and Geelong supporters should be proud of the achievements so far this season. I believe there is a level of maturity in the players and supporters that is not leading to undue and over-inflated confidence. Let's hope that perspective is maintained when we inevitably lose a game (as long as it's not in September
).
I think it's fair to say that this is the best chance in a long time to win the big win. Provided we maintain our balance, ruthlessness and desire to win....
So anyway, I put the lid back on, unconcerned with it being a Pandora's box. Then I went out and picked up all the dog crap in the backyard and mowed the lawn, content in the return to my mundane existence.
