When a band loses its front man it can rip a band apart. Some bands try and survive.....INXS quickly comes to mind but they are never the same. While others just split up.

One band is the exception to this rule and its for this reason that I believe their 1st album after their lead singers death is deserving to be amongst the "Best Comeback Album"

The band is ACDC and the album is Back In Black.

After the tragic death of Bon Scott who died at the age of 33 the band considered breaking up and thank fully they did not as they produced in my mind their greatest album that still is as powerful today as it was back when it was released in 1980.

I currently have this on as we speak and my 2 sons aged 3 and 4 request it regularly with my eldest wanting "Given the Dog a Bone" and my youngest wanting "Shoot to Thrill"....watching them go off is an amazing thing to see.

Side one
  1. "Hells Bells" – 5:10
  2. "Shoot to Thrill" – 5:17
  3. "What Do You Do for Money Honey" – 3:33
  4. "Given the Dog a Bone" – 3:30
  5. "Let Me Put My Love into You" – 4:16
Side two
  1. "Back in Black" – 4:14
  2. "You Shook Me All Night Long" – 3:30
  3. "Have a Drink on Me" – 3:57
  4. "Shake a Leg" – 4:06
  5. "Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution" – 4:15

In that case I'll choose an underrated album that will make some of you roll your eyes

U2 - All That You Can't Leave Behind

220px-U2-all-that-you-cant-leave-behind.jpg

After the overrated (but still good) Actung Baby U2 went all experimental with flops Zooropa and Pop.

There is no way that zooropa & pop are seen as flops from a musical perspective though. some of their strongest songs are in there. Commercially yes, but those albums were way more interesting than this. sucks that you won't here a song like babyface or do you feel loved on the radio.

This was the album I was referring to earlier. Probably the best comeback album ever in terms of what it did for the group, but I just can't stand AC/DC so it's better off I let it go through to the keeper for someone who would embrace it more :P

Well this all comes back to the definition of a comeback album.

-A comeback album is an album made by artist after a series of flops that brings them back to popularity

There is no question ATYCLB brought U2 back significant popularity and with a whole new generation of fans. As Roobs said, ofcourse the fans of the bands will enjoy listening to their "flops" aswell, but on the big scale picture ATYCLB was and is regarded as U2's comeback album.

This pick is a bit of a stretch for this category, but I'm calling it a comeback nonetheless!

Although seven years apart may not seem that much for an album to be considered a 'comeback' one, Dr. Dre's sophomore album, 2001, was felt as a long, overdue and needed. Dre had fallen off the radar in West Coast rap, and as the dawn of a new era for music listeners and everything else, this album, which was the successor to his debut album, The Chronic, was seen as a potential revival of his state of affairs in the game of hip hop.

No doubt in my mind, that this comeback was one of the bests by a hip hop artist of the modern era! With head bobbing tracks, vicious attacks, and beats that would make you wanna sit back, chill and relax!

Seriously, it is one of my favourite albums, and in my opinion, a great comeback after half a decade plus out of the scene!

Had a few to choose from here, but I couldn't resist taking an album from one of my favourite bands...

Dinosaur Jr. - Beyond

dinosaurjr.jpg

The band's 8th studio album was released over a decade after their previous LP, 1997's Hand It Over. It's also the first album in almost 20 years to feature the band's original lineup after bassist Lou Barlow finally returned. This is Dinosaur Jr. at their best.

1. Almost Ready
2. Crumble
3. Pick Me Up
4. Back to Your Heat
5. This Is All I Came to Do
6. Been There All the Time
7. It's Me
8. We're Not Alone
9. I Got Lost
10. Lightning Bulb
11. What If I Knew

Almost Ready:

Pick Me Up:

Back to Your Heart:

Been There All the Time (featuring Thurston Moore and his daughter in the clip):

Trainspotting Soundtrack
Disraeli Gears
Live at Leeds
Beyond

Loving this! :D

Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Californication

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1357165539.377224.jpg

Their 7th studio album, and IMHO, the absolute peak they have ever, or will ever attain. This album marked the comeback of guitarist John Frusciante. Anyway, enough said.

Track listing:

No. Title Length
1. "Around the World" 3:58
2. "Parallel Universe" 4:30
3. "Scar Tissue" 3:35
4. "Otherside" 4:15
5. "Get on Top" 3:18
6. "Californication" 5:21
7. "Easily" 3:51
8. "Porcelain" 2:43
9. "Emit Remmus" 4:00
10. "I Like Dirt" 2:37
11. "This Velvet Glove" 3:45
12. "Savior" 4:52
13. "Purple Stain" 4:13
14. "Right on Time" 1:52
15. "Road Trippin'" 3:25

Otherside is one of my favourite songs ever, but this album is stacked with awesome songs. I'd post YouTube vids but I can't right now ;)

Great Pick.
Love everything about this album. we're not alone might be my fav DinoJ Song.
and this would be in the top 3 DinoJ albums imo. It's that good!

Thank you Marklar_33! You made my life soo much easier :p

My pick is a fantastic comeback. This man got kicked out of one of the best bands in the 70's and a band that was one of the inventers of metal. Drug and alcohol addiction is what got him kicked out and he bounced back with a great solo record.

My pick is Ozzy Osbourne's - Blizzard of Ozz

220px-Blizzard_of_ozz.jpg

Released: September 1980
Track Listing:

Code:
No. Title
1. "I Don't Know"
2. "Crazy Train"
3. "Goodbye to Romance"
4. "Dee" Rhoads
5. "Suicide Solution"
6. "Mr Crowley"
7. "No Bone Movies"
8. "Revelation (Mother Earth)"
9. "Steal Away (The Night)"

This album introduced to the world one of the greatest guitarists ever that was taken away way too soon and that was Randy Rhoads.

I'll pick quickly and maybe come back and fix it up later.
I'll take Johnny Cash's 1994 comeback solo succes "American Recordings". Also produced by Rick Rubin.
Having done nothing decent as a solo artist for most of the 80's and early 90's this album introduced him to a whole new generation of fans.
