No it wouldn't because it does nothing cap wise or on court performance wise.

Sorry maybe i misunderstood the rule... Thought meant other sides could bid and maye save us some portion of his salary ? Could keep the bench together a year longer they probably give more than boozer.

But yeah sorry man must of misunderstood, i just find boozer frustrating

If we amnesty Carlos we are 4 mill below the cap, plus a room exception of 2.5 mill, that's not enough to lure anything worthwhile. I assume that the bidding only effects the pay out we make if we buy out his contract?

If we dont amnesty him, we have the MLE at 5mill and the BAE at 1.9mill or so. So there's no real advantage to amnestying him. Add that to the fact Deng and Rose are going to be out for a chunk of the season to start the year and we need someone to score

Edit - for the example of Roy, but it holds for Carlos.
The entire contract would be wiped off Portland's cap sheet, and the Blazers would be responsible from the difference in Roy's contract and the winning bid in actual salary paid out. The bid amount (say it's 50 percent for the Pacers) would then be paid by the winning bidder, and that amount would also go on that team's cap sheet.

thanks that clears it up better, so better of waiting until the next season or just never do it?

Maybe after next season when there's something else significant salary wise coming off contract with Boozer, there's no point us being 4 million below the cap because there's nothing that could improve us.

I don't see

On top of saving salary, the advantage to amnestying him is that the Bulls would likely suck next season. Rose will be gone for a significant portion of the season, realistically they aren't going to win the championship so why not build for the following year? If i'm the Bulls i try and go for a situation like the Spurs had when they got Duncan in the draft thanks to a season injury to David Robinson. Trade Deng for picks, amnesty Boozer and try and get a lottery pick next year.

I don't see

They'd have to make their roster pretty damn cruddy, because I back Thibs ability to still coach them to a very respectable record with a so-so team

We already got our dose of Admiral luck when we picked up Rose, we'd have to tank biiiig time to pick up a top draft pick. Sure we could trade Deng, but I don't see it happening unless we get a massive overs offer. The squad had to best regular season in the league with half a Rose and Rip, if we can tread water till Rose (and to some extent Deng) comes back and if (its a big if) he comes back anywhere near what he's capable of, its a dangerous playoff side. The East is so weak we should be able to make the playoffs.

Interesting trade by the Pistons and Bobcats:

Pistons get Maggette
Bobcats get Ben Gordon and protected 2013 1st rounder.

Thoughts on this trade? I personally think the Cats are the winners out of this one. Gordon is good when he's hot and a 1st round pick is always a good bonus.

Edit: Beat me to it peternorth.

I think the Cats are massive winers in this, despite the extra salary they take on.

To get rid of Maggette for anything of note is a win. To get Gordon who imo is a better player than Maggette AND get a first round draft pick is a huge win.

As for the salary they take on... well they have heaps of room need to use it somehow.

Pistons get cap relief, but giving up a first round pick will hurt in the future.

Cats get the W. They lose on salary but for where they stand in the near future it means sweet FA that they have a bad contract for one extra year. Worth it for the extra pick. The players swapped are negligible.

They aren't amnestying Lewis, they are buying him out from what I'm hearing for 13 million if done before July 1.
They can't amnesty Lewis anyway, the amnesty only applies to players on the roster pre CBA negotioations and on that same contract. And for the Hornets the only player left is Jarret Jack who won' get amnestied.

But you are correct they are buying out 13mill guaranteed on Lewis' contract

Yet another trade:
12th pick, Shaun Livingston, Jon Leuer and Jon Brockman to Houston
14th pick and Dalembert to Bucks.

Don't know who the winner is, here. Dalembert will be Milwaukee's starting C, whether as the three Houston acquired are only fillers. Pretty even trade on my standards.

expect some movement here and in my pants when trades are announced today
In terms of trades, today was a massive let down!

I was 98% certain that Kings would trade the pick but then Robinson slid, Geoff Petrie creamed his pants just we we do when Kate Upton pops out of the pool in wet t-shirt and that was it!

Here's a crazy idea: Boozer for Iggy? Philly need an inside presence and Iggy can play the 2 in Chicago. Thoughts?

We'd have to throw a pretty significant sweetner for the 76ers to do that (ie the Charlotte pick) and then it becomes a no from Chicago because that pick and the whole no Anthony Davis for Charlotte thing really adds value to the pick and it's declining protection.

Philly and Chicago don't really make good trading partners at this stage.

Not sure if Philly have that many options if they are desperate to get a low post scorer in. Can't think of anyone that would be worth giving Iggy up for, that isnt considered over the hill. I like Harkless, but think they should've just drafted a big.

peternorth

We want Pau coz David Kahn want job.

No Love, no way. Can have Derrick and Future All Star + HOF + household name Wes Johnson. Very excellent.

K, how about this?

Lakers: Williams, Wes Johnson, Beasley
T-Wolves: Gasol, World Peace, 2 future 2nd rounders
