How do you feel about them?

Any sports you are keen on?

James Tomkins, what a gun, 43 and still an elite athlete in a grueling sport.

I see them primarily as a collection of what are largely irrelevant sports glorified into a mega event, however I cannot help but feel somewhat favourably towards them.

I like the swimming. Athletics much less interesting, but the 100m dash is always good. Weightlifting is always a curious event. How beach volleyball is an olympic sport and other sports e.g. rifle shooting, cricket etc, are not is a damned mystery.

I love the Olympics, and will be watching as much of them as I can.

Favourite events? Swimming, team sports like basketball and soccer, aths, cycling. Very dubious with the sports judged on a subjective basis, like diving and gymnastics.

Love the drama and the stories behind the athletes and how they got there. Love the upsets, despite the constant drug questions with some.

Time management will be the issue for me for the next 3 weeks, as I watch all 8 AFL games every week, the A-League kicks off next week as well and I always watch all 4 games each week, plus the Olympics. Thanks fek for FOXTEL iQ2! It's far from perfect but it'll assist me in my endeavours to watch all three simultaneously.

Go Aussies!!!!!!!!!!!

T'toes

Nans and Kids thread.

Hate half the sports in there- do you think ancient Greece gave a shit about ping pong and synchronised swimming?

I'm with you, Booze. The modernisation of the Olympic Games has been a terrible two-sided coin that has also resulted in the complete phasing out of chariot racing.

Major boo to that.

Go nans and kids. Glad its progressed from the all male nude greek  event of yestercentury.

Woman's beach volleyball the highlight for me alongside the gymnastic's (unbelievably fit athletes), swimming, running, canoeing, pole vaulting, hockey, basketball...bring it on :thumbsu:

In an attempt to capture the whole excitement of being in Beijing for our 5-year old son, the missus and I have put a smouldering car tyre in our living room.

Of course, for the sake of authenticity, it's an Olympic.

I hope you didn't go hard on the carbon dioxide?

I also miss the ye olde custom of competing naked.

In other news, just flicked over to SBS and happened to notice that there was a Bulgarian volleyball player by the name of Gaydarski.

Man, his internal alarm must be driving him nuts.

Is the Olympics on??;)

Oi I am almost over it. Talk about brain washing from Ch 7. Is it me or does 7 seem to be really pushing it more this time round than in previous Olympics or have I become disinterested in something I used to look forward to but now am cynical about the whole IOC and politics of it all.

Tho, kudos to the guy from some small African country in the kayaking (the white water thingy race ) last night who won bronze :thumbsu:

Has darts been included yet? or eight ball? Better get down to the local and start training, should they be included for the London games in 2012.

Seriously the swimming is the main highlight of this event for Australians & the athletics is alright but the rest of the sports are either made up or crap.

The Olympics are overrated & overhyped far to much for my liking.

I try not to laugh at all your posts but I can't help it.
