Maybe the top A league players around League 1 but generally squads are league 2ish. Otherwise if you’re a local Aussie wouldn’t more try their hand over in England where they could earn more money in L1? Championship teams would tear them a new hole.

Nope.

Melbourne Victory would tear a new hole with any League 2 side.

Championship players and internationals in our squad, you dont get that in League 2.

A League squads are definitely miles better than League 2 squads. When the A League started NZ Knights recruited heavily from League 2 / conference and were absolutely thrashed mercilessly.

A League is definitely above League 2 level, thats pretty indisputable.

Infact Milligan went to League 1 at the end of his career after he finished up with us and did well, playing 30 games last sesason.
Matt Millar went from an average Jets side into League One Shrewsbury, so this narrative that only the best A-League players could do it is baffling.

Yep, the top players in A League also get big bucks, far more than any League 2 hack. Lopez from La Liga looks a great get for AUFC.

Ordinarily I would agree with you but not sure that I do right now. I'm hoping that Brebs' new signings gel well but last season MVFC were awful.

There is quality in the A League but also quite a lot of dross. The better import players over the years have made many comments about how staggering the contrast is from the best to worst player at each club.

I've been an MVFC season ticket holder for well over a decade now and love going to games but I've got no interest in watching neutral A League matches. As has been pointed out, the standard is fairly poor compared to other options out there. However I do think that fans who are only watching football on TV are really missing out on something but I can fully appreciate why so many Aussie football fans are unable to engage with their local A League options. You can't force these things.

What other options are there for going to watch your own team play? A League is the only option for that in Australia for those lucky enough to have a team based in the city where they live.

It isnt poor standard either, it is decent. Plenty of imports have commented about how impressed they were with the standard.

I dont watch neutral A League games either apart from the big derbies, that I can understand.

Also when he was too old for the A League went back to League 1 for a couole of seasons before retiring.

So pointless though, the 10 weeks will be sh*t for him, but the fine is like one weeks wages haha.
Not really. 10 weeks without their first choice RB could cost them a title.

Fair enough. Just curious how much would the average A League player ear?

From what I have heard 200k + for non marquee players (each team can have an australian plus international marquee).

Australian & international marquees on as much as 1-2 million a season, wages you would never see in League 2.

Jamie Young was a reserve keeper when he joined Brisbane Roar. Scott McDonald has struggled massively since returning to Australia. Le Fondre was a Premier League player in his prime (12 goals in 34 matches) as was Steven Taylor. Way too good for League 2.

Now you have guys like Lopez joining the A League from straight La Liga. No chance they would play in League 2.

A Leagues around League 1 standard with the best teams as good as lower championship teams. Laughable to suggest it is League 2 level.

Agree that the A League is around League 1 standard. Obviously, there is some overlap. The best League 1 teams are also as good as lower Championship teams. The worst League 1 teams are League 2 standard - as are the worst A League teams.

There are some individuals that have previously played at a higher level, and are now extending their careers by joining the A League - with a nice marquee salary - when they otherwise might drop to League 1/2 (or other country equivalents) or retire.

When you look the other way, there are no A League players transferring into PL or Championship teams. You are looking at Matthew Millar signing for League 1 Shrewsbury and George Blackwood for League 2 Oldham.

Plenty of players have joined the championship from the A League including Riley McGree currently & Aaron Mooy.

You did ok in ACL.

Mooy was a star in the A League and isn't really the general standard

Le Fondre's last 5 years in England were mainly in the Championship where he was scoring 1 in 5 except for a brief period at League 1 where he was 1 in 3. At Sydney he was scoring 2 in 3
