I think you’d find the national interest would be very low for these games.

Shoehorning the 2030 World Cup onto 3 continents (confederations) so that they can quickly move back around to an AFC World Cup in 2034 for a sportswashing nation is a new level of corruption, even for FIFA. And that's saying something.

Think it 100% would sell out all games. People will absolutely want to go see the Spanish and German clubs. Hell, clubs like Juventus get huge crowds here. People are Eurosnobs, they want to go see the best players.

Impossible to guess the playing lists six years from now but they would absolutely attract bumper crowds. Look at the crowds pre-season friendlies get, and this would be in-season so players theoretically more up to speed and in theory at least playing a competitive game.

Yeah you're right, I should have said it'd sell out all European games, not all games.

I still think any game involving them will get pretty big crowds.

That's categorically not the case for Bayern Munich. I'd say most football fans in this country wouldn't even know the Bayern Munich result from the weekend. Trying to compare them is pointless.

Yep, and that'd be a top up on top of the casual fans who would enjoy the novelty of seeing these top sides. There were Everton fans who flew over for a fortnight when they came here to play Celtic lol, if you think football fans aren't going to travel for an actual trophy then that's just crazy.

The games would also be spread around the country so it's not as if there's ten games in Sydney (or at least, not in a block) so you get fatigue from the fixtures.

I also think you're significantly underrating how many fans there are of those clubs who live here.

South American team v African team would probably be the least attended fixtures but I'm sure they'd vary ticket prices accordingly. I mean, there'd be WC games where that'd be the case so it's hardly a unique or CWC-specific issue.

Australians love their football.

Uzbekistan vs North Korea still gets 12k at the 2015 Asian Cup for example with virtually no expat community for either side.

Across a tournament, I'd completely disagree.

You and I were at Star City that night with the French/Colombians etc. Club football has a far smaller number of supporters than nations do. I can't see River Plate v Bayern Munich packing out the Star with people in kits etc of the two clubs.

It was going to be the Saudis also bidding but it does sound like Australia has agreed to forgo 2034 in exchange for support to host 2029 Club World Cup & 2026 Women's Asian Cup from AFC.
