Not sure if anyone is aware but J-League is transitioning to a European calendar as of next season:

That means finishing this season in December, starting again in Aug 2026. 38 game season.


This appears to be an attempt to compete directly against the European leagues as a genuine alternative to them.


Unlike the likes of the Saudi League Japan has 3 division of professional teams, large population bases to draw support from. Japan is actually a desirable destination to reside in, players are not paid unsustainable amounts like the Saudi Pro League is.

Japan is also a favored and known destination for South American footballers which is a big advantage.
