Yep, think I'm going to say something like this before the match:

"Any decision I make is final, I don't want any backchat about anything I do, and if I hear any swearing directed at me or about something I've done, that's a yellow in the first instance."

I'm actually itching to go card happy so any excuse will do. Gotta love a bit of a power trip.
Be tough, but fair.

Don't go handing out yellows like they're going out of fashion, but if someone tells you to get ****ed, flick him a yellow.

The game isn't about you SM/typeclub dont go full Razor Ray on them
You sure do know how to make words hurt. "don't go full Razor Ray". Ouch!

I'm not going to card people for sneezing at me, but I'll set out what's a cardable offence before the game, and if they do it they'll be getting a card.

Not saying it is, saying that I'm not going to take any crap. Happy to dish out cards if I cop any.
Players are always going to argue or asks for decisions. Just be firm in your reasons for giving or not giving them and if they still fly off the handle they deserve a card

Yeah like I said, it's only if they swear at me.

First game is U18s, second is U15s, to be honest would much rather it be the other way around, U18s is probably going to be the hardest first game I could have apart from the AA.

Be nothing they're not going to hear at school.

For me it's all about how a player speaks to the ref. A swear word doesnt make anything more offensive or inappropriate.

Agree. It's all about how swear words are used. Swearing at yourself is fine. Directing swear words at opponents or referrers isn't.

Having said that use of foul language is considered a red card offense so a referee can send you off for using any type of foul language if they really want to.

I guess if people have kids there with them they may have a problem.

No problems with this one

If they swear at the call I tell them to watch their mouth, and bust out the card if they keep going. But if they direct swearing towards me as the ref I don't warn, its a straight yellow.

If they swear at opponents I give them a notice that if they do it again they will get a yellow too. Otherwise the opposition takes it into their own hands.

I always joke about it hoping someone would get serious but I haven't been offered any unfortunately

Some of the mums flirt at the juniors though, that works too.

Was offered free repairs on air conditioners by a Chilean player who dives alot but haven't needed to use it yet.

At the ref is the issue.
I don't think so. Refs can be very precious though.

Someone gets in a refs face and screams "golly gosh referee, that was an awful decision" and I have no problems with a card.

But someone says "****ing hell ref, that was a shit decision", a good ref will just carry on.

It's not precious, it's disrespecting officials. There's a difference between the example that you just gave and what we're saying which is "You're a ****ing disgrace ref".

Its also about the atmosphere you allow to fester, if you let everyone swear at everything things get heated and before long they're chopping each other and starting fights.

The ref shouldn't cop abuse either, and needs to maintain respect. If they make it personal to the ref there should be no tolerance

It's like the fact players can't touch the ref. Doesn't matter if it's a shove or a pat on the shoulder, if you let them touch you it just opens the door, better just to have no tolerance for it.

Personally I think any ref that automatically books someone for calling them a ****ing disgrace is being precious. It's all about the delivery, and not the words used.

A quiet word, and then take action if it carries on.

Get in the refs face and scream at him, then no problems with a booking at all.

The game isn't all about the referees.

People go on about respect, the best refs earn it, not demand it.

Then you'd be incorrect. It's in the laws of the game. It's as much a yellow card as reckless conduct.

No one is suggesting the game is about the referees, but the best refs do not allow people to blatantly break the laws of the game, they keep the game in line.

Shame we can't fit common sense into the laws of the game.

Refs that use it get a lot more respect.

- Warn players before match what they will be carded for
- When players perform actions that you have warned them about, card them.

Seems to be common sense to me.

Shame some think allowing children to fall into bad character traits is a good idea because referees are somehow precious for upholding the laws of the game.

Ha ha. ****ing hell. Good thing you don't have an overinflated sense of your own importance.

Won't someone think of the children.
