I think there are rumours suggesting that it's the Chinese/Hing Kongers that failed the 'fit and proper' person test, and one has to to wonder how the heck they managed to fail that considering some owners in the football pyramid.

This is the one where they are rewarding clubs on their history in the competition isn't it? I look forward to Ajax's, Porto's, Forest's and Villa's payments when they get back.

The Milans and United seem to be the biggest winners out of this new CL shuffle.

To be fair to Bayern, at least they're actually winning their league, however one-sided it is.

United need to lift their game with the competition on offer. Top 4 is no guarantee these days.

That would be the right thing. Unfortunately new teams come in at the expense of old teams, and the ECA seem to have a big problem with that.

Not the newer teams' fault that they're not horribly mismanaged, not even good enough to get into the main comps. I mean, imagine seeing the Milans in the CL over Sassulo if both of them finished midtable, that would be horrible.

And as noted, it works both ways, if Forest ever get into the CL, they better be getting paid more than Arsenal for instance. Hopefully clubs of 'smaller' leagues get their just dues too.

It just seems like UEFA believes that holding El Classico or United v Milan every day is a license to print money, failing to realise the importance of competition and what it actually means.


That Gerrard Video highlighted something notable to me. A kid in LA wanted to actually play football for Leicester. Would you have heard that last year? Heck no. Clubs can only grow if they can get success and that can only be accomplished by overall excellent management.

City's fanbase is certainly growing, and might even usurp older powers if they fail to remain relevant.

The EPFL Board of Directors is meeting today in Amsterdam to discuss the outcome of the reform of UEFA Club Competitions.

The European Leagues believe the way this process has been conducted by UEFA to be unacceptable for an organisation that claims to be the governing body of football in Europe. A major change in European football has been announced without the support and consensus of the organisers of domestic league football in Europe. This decision will have a detrimental impact on domestic competitions and will lead to an exponential growth in the financial and sporting gap between the biggest clubs in Europe and all the others.

As a result of the decision taken by UEFA, the EPFL believes that UEFA has breached the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two organisations.

In the event that the EPFL were to terminate the MoU as a result of such breach, this would give all European Leagues total freedom to schedule their matches as they see fit – including on the same days and at the same kick-off times as UEFA Club Competitions.

Finally, the EPFL calls on the new UEFA President, to be elected next week, to reconsider the reform relating to UEFA Club Competitions. The European Leagues stand ready to meet the new UEFA President to discuss these matters.

The EPFL will further clarify its position during a press conference that shall take place at 15:30hs in Amsterdam.

- Spanish La Liga
- German Bundesliga
- English Premier League
- French Professional Football League
- Russian Premier League
- Liga Portugal
- Dutch Eredivisie
- Swiss Football League

- Scottish Professional Football Leagues

This really is something all football fans should be fighting against, but so many are so tied up in club rivalries they can't see past what's good for their team/bad for the other team to even consider what's good for the sport.

Ronaldinho has retired. He always played football with a smile on his face. At his peak, absolutely one of the best I've seen play.

His pace was frightening and he is quite possibly the most skilful player I've seen. A joy to watch.

Barca opened our stadium in 2003. Ronaldo had just knocked back Man United to join Barca. He got cheered every time he touched the ball. Looked genuinely bemused by it.

Great player, and his first few years at Barca were amazing.
