He would've rested up all his first teamers too. I remember the campaigner did that in 2012-13 against Chelsea at OT, you lost 1-0 and those crucial 3 points helped them finish 3rd and potentially thwarted our CL hopes as we came 2 points behind in 5th.

Yeah I know, still a campaigner for doing so.

I remember he melted over Zeki Fryers when Fryers wanted to join us, but he went to Belgium on a Bosman to avoid a tribunal fee as Utd apparently were ropeable for wanting to join us and would've tried to get the max fee from us (6m). We got Fryers cheap 6 months later for probably half of what the tribunal would've been.

Perhaps the Chelsea tank game was that year too as a square upperer.

Berba was our crown jewel, couldn't expect it to be an easy deal when Keane left for Liverpool that window also.

He did that with Bale too, but that was to stall Ozil going to Arsenal. A lot of Spuds fans including myself are pi55ed off with Real Madrid for selling to Arsenal like that, but it's arguably one of Wenger's best transfer moves he ever did. Will be interesting to see what happens if RM ever come sniffing around again.

Levy's regularly done business late, dunno why, but the old "Levy Time" philosophy was born around the VDV deal, then Levy Time was a load of shit for 6 years until Sissoko was signed. Poch at least tries to get business done a little earlier, but would prefer to make all of our future signings in June/July rather than August.
