That's the thing though, if Catalunya are successful are successful in their secession, how long until there is an upswing in the nationalism of the other autonomous areas of Spain, particularly Basque country which has had it's own efforts at secession. Admittedly I'm not familiar enough with Spanish politics to know how likely it is that other places like Andalusia would go down this path, but there could be a domino effect.
Breakaway countries seems to be the in thing these days. If every region that wanted independence was granted it we will have 100 + nations in Europe. Expect this one to for down just like the Basque / Andalucia / Arangon etc etc push for independence.
The silly thing is most of these regions already are run autonomously.
It has, but up until recently, it's been a 50-50 split. Before that the biggest campaigners were the Basque on the independence issue.Catalonia independence movement has been around for ages. Any push for independence must surely have legal issues. And it's unlikely Catalonia would be accepted into the EU either.
It's the economic power and size of Catalonia that gives it a bit of pull I'd think. It's also a country that had a relatively recent Civil War and then a long run of Fascist rule, which is what always gives the Real/ Barca rivalry its bite.
Purely from a football perspective, Barca moving to a Catalonian league would be disastrous for them, they'd be the big club in a Portugal level league and would quickly decline. This may well be secondary to them though of course.
Look at the thickness of that thing. [emoji15]
Wrong forum.
BIGScrabbleWhat forum were you thinking of?
You'd think at least half of it is devoted to last year's incredible 2nd place finish. The club probably won't reach such heights ever again.Look at the thickness of that thing. [emoji15]
Tottenham are shit and a majority of my BigFooty existence is dedicated to trying to prove otherwise.
