I read the court case summary and all that happened was Gerrard trying to break up a scuffle between the DJ and his friend. The judge decided that Gerrard acted in self defense after viewing the footage and cleared him of any wrongdoing.

Unfortunately tabloids generally don't report that sort of stuff and the narrative that Gerrard started a fight over a song request remains despite it not being the case.

Pretty emphatic statement from the fans. Do we actually know what they said to him/his team mates while they were warming up yet? You'd expect some kind of statement from the club condemning racism, or for Evra/Marseille's manager to have made a formal complaint to the referee post-game if there was any truth to that rumour wouldn't you?

From what I could ascertain tabloids released only footage of the ensuing scuffle and not from when it started. The Judge stated all of the CCTV footage indicated Gerrard was responding to a scuffle involving his friend and the DJ. Of course that wasn' t reported in the media.

Of course. This is a different sort of case and the Judge did say that Gerrard was justified in his actions. That's pretty conclusive for me. I guess you could believe the tabloids if you want.
