The Pavlich Medal

i brought this up a year or so abo.. Doig to me, whilst a great fremantle wafl name, doesnt mean anything as a fremantle dockers name... we should name the B&F medal the Pavlich-Bell medal and recognise our two greatest players.

Agree with others in that the Doig name means little to me, will mean even less to future generations. Pav will of course be pretty forgotten in 30-50 years time - as all players are - but at least his name will have real, tangible history at the freo dockers in the club's formative years.

Personally, I always felt that the 'Doig' medal was just a sort of caretaker name for our B&F until someone worthy of the recognition made their mark on the club.

I reckon that if the name isn't changed for Pav in the next 10-20 years, it will always remain the 'Doig'.

I know b all about the exploits of Chas Brownlow, but he has a medal named after himself. The Brownlow is still the Brownlow.

The Doig is the Doig, the family is Fremantle.

Chas brownlow played in the league in which the brownlow medal was created for though... no doig has ever played for the fremantle football club.

having said that, doesnt bother me that much either way, would prefer pav-bell medal, but if it stays doig...meh

Similar to Brownlow, the Pies b+f is named after a long-time administrator who never played a game for them. Ideally we'd have held off naming the medal until we had our first club legend retiring, but I can understand why they went down this route. IIRC, we named the medal shortly after George Doig's death?

How much would the naming rights to the new stadium cost? That'd drive the Eagles round the bend. Pavlich stadium, I'm off to the Pav to watch the Eagles.

Not fussed either way, how about it re-naming it in the off chance he wins another B&F? Would give him 7, great number and unlikely to being topped for a long, long time.

As it is 6 is still extremely impressive, even if he didn't really deserve it last year.
