So much knee-jerk reaction going on over the past few weeks, so it's time we were all reminded that we've had worse starts to very good (or great) seasons before.

Anyone here remember 1992?

Here's how we went:

Rd 1 - BYE
Rd 2 - Lost to Sydney (who would then win only 3.5 of their next 43 games)
Rd 3 - Beat St Kilda at Subiaco
Rd 4 - Lost to Geelong at Subiaco
Rd 5 - Drew with the Brisbane Bears at Carrara (Bears won 4.5 games in 1992)
Rd 6 - Beat Richmond at the MCG by 1 point (Richmond would win 5 games in 1992)
Rd 7 - Lost to Fitzroy at North Hobart

That's 2 wins, 3 losses and a draw from our first six matches.

After that point, we'd only lose three more games for the year.

One was to Collingwood at Subi by a point when the Pies came home with a wet sail (anyone remember Troy Lehmann?). The other two were away losses to St Kilda and Footscray where we kicked only 3 goals in each match (strange year, I know).

What's this mean? Not too much only to say that seasons can be turned around. Same thing happened in 1996 where we lost four games in a row early in the season only to turn around and win 11 straight with a bunch of kids in the side.

Keep the faith and see how we go.

upforgrabs, glad to see ur optimism! alot of ppl here need that!

It's not so much the 1-3 that's concerning as much as the fixture ahead of us.

Having said that, the league's dynamic changes so much over the 6 months of the season that games that currently look un-winnable could look much more palatable closer to the actual time. Eg, Essendon's annual midseason decline and catching them in the second half of the year.

Sorry to intrude but I doubt you would make top 4 with 6 losses and a draw this year.

II wasn't having a go. Based on last year you would need 16 wins to make top 4. You had 15 wins last year, if you drew one of the games you lost you would have had the same ladder position.

Just messing with you - "how dare you suggest we don't make top 4".
I'm pretty sure we'd take any top 8 position if we had a full squad available to us.

Getting beaten by Carlton, in Perth has been theonly loss that has caused me some concern.

We lost against two good sides in Fremantle and Hawthorn with a decimated list.

If he dont win this week, then Ill start to be very worried. But hopefully we can start to get close to our best team on the park over the next few weeks to see where we are at.

West Coast does not possess the talent that 1992 side had in it. The only perceived weakness in our side was the forward line and even that was a very good combination from Heady to Sumich and Lewis.

This side pales in comparison to it and our midfield pales in comparison to the Kemp, Mainy, Matera combination.
Even in 2004 the midfield was coming together with Judd cousins kerr and co.

Don't kid yourselves. We have a B grade team with 2 A graders and they cannot recover from losing 4 games out of the first 5. I hope I am wrong but reality bites.

Nice try, but only our ruck division and Key Forward line are better in this team than in the 92' team. Our midfield and defense today are a laughing stock compared to back then. Still yes, we do have winnable games coming up. We'll see exactly where we are in a months time.

I absolutely agree.
Far too many people are in denial.
We simply do not have the cattle to be a premiership side with the current mix.

How the tipsters thought we were favorites at the start of the year is beyond me...

But the so called experts didnt see the GFC coming either!!

At the moment we're junk, but this club can and will turn it around and switch it on before the end of the season. Woosh no doubt has held us back in our prep so we peak later in the season so anything can happen.

Keep the Faith.

The injuries are piling up for other teams as well - maybe the injury gods finished with us at the start of the year.

We need to win regardless of injuries. Really I am over the injury excuse.
