Mate I'm gonna absolutely howl with laughter if the AFL somehow tries to spin/justify that non call handball OUTSIDE THE FIELD OF PLAY

Its all good, Chris Scott in the presser said cameron was NOT out of bounds when he took the handball. Nothing to see here

Cameron wasnt just a little OOB, he was on the fake turf.

4 umpires all forgot one of the oldest and most basic rules in the game.

Indeed. Easy mistake to make...

Ive cleaned up the OP.

The thing I hate the most is when umpiring is so bad I end up seriously invested in the slighted team winning.

Watching a good game of football is always on the cards, but actively cheering for Collingwood ??

Imagine if Cameron was only a couple of goals behind Curnow in the Coleman. Those 2 goals could have cost Curnow what I assume is a significant amount of money.

Of course, if other key forwards were as looked after by the umpires as Curnow (or Cameron) it would be a lot more crowded at the top of the list.

I hope the media go to town on this during the week.

Fortunately, it didn't impact the result, but people underestimate the effect of momentum changes in footy.

Pies were on a roll and got to 3 goals up when Cameron kicked the goal from a mark that should never have been paid.

Same situation 10 minutes later.

AFL really is amateur hour a lot of the time...

And the whole bullshit about every goal being reviewed before the next bounce.

Had they gone to get a couple of meat pies ?

Chris Scott was pretty poor in the press conference having a crack at the journo questioning the call

Basically said he hadn’t seen it but he’d heard from people who know the rules that it want out of bounds, but sarcastically said to the journo “but you seem pretty confident that you know more than them”

He was also asking back to journo questions “what did you think?”

A bit snarky old Scotty boy

And Geelong fans wonder why he is disliked across the league?

The handball oob

The field umpires I can forgive. They have 360 degrees of constant play and have to assess every rule constantly

Boundary umpires have one job

And he flunked it
No. Two field umpires are close enough and looking directly at the play. Yes, it is their job to assess every rule constantly, but in that moment they only really had one rule to assess.

1st one Id say was maybe 30cm. It wasnt a metre like BT said.

2nd one Cameron was 2m out of bounds.
Yup 1st one was closer than I thought due to parallax error. Boundary ump was already OOB himself though and had to look left to follow the ball, clear decision he stuffed up.

Yep. Draw a line from the boundary umpire's head to the ball and its maybe 30cm out.

He was 2m to 3m away too so that is a poor mistake. Similar to Rankine kicking a goal after running OOB against us earlier in the year.

The 2nd one with the handball was just atrocious. I cant remember as poor a decision. Beyond belief than 4 umpires were within 30m and not one blew their whistle.

Or ARC overturning such a blatant **** up.

What wasn’t it reviewed?
I'm told that ARC only review goal umpire decisions and not boundary ump ones, although I thought I had seen them do so in another game this year.

Not trying to be a bad sport after winning, the handball non decision just blew my mind though. And BT was questioning why the crowd was booing, as if we needed any more evidence that the guy remarkably doesn't know the rules despite decades of work in the industry.

They review if the ball was touched off the boot 45 meters from goal… so it’s not just goal umpires decisions …

ITs like that 'handball' Taylor Adams did with the back of his fist between his legs.

nothing is perfect and micro analysis in todays game will produce hundreds of missed calls but that is the wonderfully beautiful part about sport. The inconsistencies that allow you to get the win

Maybe each team gets a challenge they can use only for these sort of decisions( e.g. the two tonight but not an umpres decision) . But you cop a penalty if the challenge is deemed to be frivolous.
Been saying this for years.
A challenge every quarter, bit like Tennis. Any decision can be looked at. It’s so weird that there is a replay shown on the ground so every single person in the stadium can tell an umpire ****ed up but umpire just looks at the players and says: “didn’t see it!”
