I wanted to love the new star wars trailer but I just didn't feel it. It was very downbeat and a little too emotionally invested for mine, just didn't feel like star wars. To be expected though as it was always heading in a fresh direction, which is fine. Its going to do phenomonally well and maybe appeal to a broader audience.

I agree, it didn't feel like Star Wars at all.

At least the prequels felt like star wars, looked and sounded like star wars. This is something different. I don't like it. It's the Port Power est 1996 of Star Wars.

From the Ruthless Reviews FB

JJ Abrams makes humorless parodies. He figures out the essential elements of an idea and creates a hollowed out replica. The end result is like a Weird Al song that isn't very funny, but is a pretty catchy take on the original, so you enjoy it for the moment, but then forget all about it. Enjoy Star Wars: Some Star Wars Stuff.

It has the same shitty minimalist music at the start of the trailer every trailer has these days, that shitty keyboard that was in Jurassic Park and Star Trek, among others. Its not Star Wars. It's like a movie of one of the less impressive EU works. I'm underwhelmed.

To go on a tangent, the best trailer ever made is the Two Towers one. Truly epic.

Unless ruthless reviews are exposing homoerotic undertones of classic era action cinema I don't always agree with them.

However an unfunny, seriously played parody, is a good description of what I felt I was watching.

I honestly don't get how the new trailer doesn't feel like Star Wars? If you think the prequels felt like star wars then the only thing that makes a Star Wars movie a Star Wars movie is the music.

Yes.

Just cause the storyline, scripts, dialogue, and acting was awful, doesn't mean it was presenting in the classic and iconic "Star Wars" way. The visuals and music and tone were all spot on.
Disagree on all of your points. The new one looked and felt more like Star Wars in every way conceivable compared to the arsehattery of the prequels.

Get used to that with no more tapatalk.

Really? With shaky cam and silly renditions of the classic score? It's the Die hard 4 of star wars.

Die Hard 2 is the prequels. Not very good, but undoubtedly, stylistically, a Die Hard film.

Die Hard 4 abandoned some of the things that made the first 3 great, and while arguably a better film than 2, definitely lacks that Die Hard feel.

Why was Luke Stratospherestroller's targeting computer an Atari2600 when Obi-Wan was an old ped - allegedly - but when Obi-Wan was a younger man with a forbidden flashdrive all the computers and shet were more in keeping with PS2 tech

George Lucas' dress sense, posture and affect also resembles the guy who plays Pablo Escobar in Narcos I would do a photoshop named pablodagobar.bmp but I assume pete's got this

Welll, it is a huge part of it. The score is one of the most recognised and iconic in all motion picture history. Again, even the prequel music was top notch, Duel of the Fates has even eclipsed some of the OT themes.

Because war and rebellion may lead to a few budget cuts in X-wing targeting software graphics design department.

In the prequels they had all day to sit around and shine their starfighters cause they surely didn't need to use them, until some shit about trading routes.

Agree with all of that. John Williams is doing the music for this movie just like he did all the others. I doubt you'll be disappointed in the music and I wouldn't worry about the music in the trailer as that's usually done by marketing people.

How has it been different working with J.J. Abrams compared to working with George Lucas?

It’s actually very similar. My meetings with George had to do with spotting the film, selecting areas in which music would be played, and pretty much we agreed on all that. He always left me free to write the music. And J.J.’s done the same thing. We’ve had a few preliminary meetings, and I’ve played him some music at the piano, which he seemed to like very much. His latest instruction to me was, “Just do your thing.” Which is giving me a good sense of freedom, a good free swing at the ball. I don’t know how much you know of him, but he is a delightful person. Enormously bright. I’ve been very impressed with him in meetings with a great variety of people. His generalship is assured and warm and inviting and inclusive. If I can say it, he’s a fabulous young man who’s future is so brilliant and so promising. I don’t know how old he is, but he’s a young man to me. [Abrams is 48; Williams is 83.] He’s enormously impressive.

Anyway I'm optimistic it will be a good Star Wars movie and a good film.

I won't be totally satisfied with anything Star Wars until a dark HBO style tele show is made anyway. TV > film in this day and age.

Think that was the original plan which turned in to Star Wars rebels.

A big complaint is the franchise begun to focus too much of kids entertainment, and the Disney acquisition hasn't eased any of those concerns.

Couldn't disagree more. The visual element of the prequels was one of the biggest let downs. Far too much CGI, something that was acknowledged and rectified for the new series.

I actually liked it, didn't give much away other than there clearly being 2 new leads.

There's potential to make these movies great. Has a bit of a Jurassic World feel to it, which I'm fine with.

Seriously?
The prequels and clone wars were darker than any of the originals. Not to mention the games.
