I do think what mandella did was for a noble cause....but to say he was in prison because of the colour of his skin is not entirely true...

Whilst he did those acts from 1961 until 1963 he basically did them because it was the colour of his skin that he was suppressed not because he really wanted to do them.

Nelson, Oliver Tambo, Walter Sisulu and others rejected violence from the 1940's when they set up the ANC until 1960 when in Sharpeville blacks peacefully protested their poor conditions and the police mowed down and killed 69 of them. That's when he started thinking that non-violence will not work when dealing with the Afrikaners.

I believe in the golden rule - that you treat people the way you want to be treated. The corollary of that is that if you treat people like shit, then you want to be treated like shit back.

The South African authorities in their actions in Sharpeville basically approved a violent response by blacks with their actions that day.

the media is the difference between a freedom fighter and terrorist

Yes and no. The media play their part but politicians are the main drivers of differentiating to suit their political needs.

The law and morality says you can't kill people. But the law and morality allow for self defence and you don't get locked up for that.

One mans terrorist is another mans freedom fighter. George Washington and his men terrorised the legitimate government of America and its citizens back in the 1770's and 1780's yet no media or politician in the US will call him a terrorist.

I am against people who do carry out indiscriminate acts of violence - fly a plane into a building, get on a bus and blow themselves up and those on the bus, just start spraying bullets because they are angry at the world. But if a government ( or group or individual) start killing for indiscriminate reasons or because they don't like you opposing them, then you are allowed self defence either immediately or to plan to defend yourself down the track and kill them back.

Yeah, but why is it pitch black at night?

Ask Elon Musk - he worked that out when he was about 8 and then went on to start up Pay Pal, SolarCity, Tesla, SpaceX and other businesses.

REH disappointed you would stoop to raman 's contributions when I was trying to have a genuine discussion....

I am pretty sure you know the difference between being put in jail because of the colour of your skin and mandellas situation

but just in case hurricane carter might be the man your looking for....

I would like to know how they get their figures on wages and how they come to find that women get payed less then men for the same job

Every workplace I have been in we get payed the same they have every opportunity to move up.....the only thing I can see that hinders their chance is when they have a baby...it will stall their career. If they didnt they didn't get the same opportunities they could sue the shit out if the company....

Every workplace I have been in women have been encouraged supported to move up the chain....some succeed others fail....I am baffled how they get their figures women are payed less.....in my company its a multi billion $ industry they would hate to been seen as sexist and its just not good for business.

If any women are mistreated or claim unequal opportunity I would encourage them to leave their company as there are plenty of good companies out there....

You haven't worked everywhere in the world.

The figures are across large numbers of people, so even though your experience may be good there are many places where things are different. I can remember someone saying the company they worked at had a special club for all the managers, out of 100 people there were 0 women.

I honestly can't understand how someone could think paying a man more is OK, but people must do it. I told you of the resume thing where people would hire the man, but ignore the woman when the resume was identical, yes it may not be like that everywhere, but its still terrible.

I like the sentiment of your last statment, but its not always that easy. For example there may be only one company in your city for the job you are best qualified for, or perhaps you had already been rejected by a bunch of others?

There are industries where its the opposite, for example the social worker industry is dominated by women, but the trend is certainly in favour of men.

I said Elon Musk because he is a South African and he talked about being scared of the dark when he was 8 and then worked out it was black at night because of the absence of photons he stopped being scared. Look at the start of the Bloomberg TV doco I posted in Bye Bye GM thread earlier this morning. It was a joke to a sarcastic remark.

So I saw Hunger Games: Catching Fire today. Didn't have high expectations going in, but it was ****ing amazing. Even if it's not the sort of thing you're usually in to, give it a try.

So anyway I bump into a bloke I played footy with in the early 90's that I hadn't seen for almost 20 years. Turns out he is gay. Good luck to him he is a fantastic bloke and his partner seemed cool. During the conversation I was saying how surprised I was that he was openly gay and he says "even if it's not the sort of thing you're usually in to, give it a try".

I said no to him and I am saying no to any Hunger Games movies.

I tried it, and I can report that girls are much prettier.

Haven't tried The Hunger Games in spite of the pretty girl.

I dunno, I constantly find that I enjoy things that I didn't think I would be into.

You will have to explain it before I can answer?

I'd pretty much do anything to get out of going to the cinema.

Meatloaf knows the rest.

Gays are like Christians to me. I really enjoy their company and I am completely relaxed and comfortable around them.

The minute they preach to me about conversion I'm out.
