I've caught up with GoT now. My opinion on the show hasn't changed. It's highly watchable, but I have zero emotional attachment to it.

This latest episode had my favourite GoT moment ever though.

When the dwarfs came out and acted out the battle of all the different kings or whatever and then "King Joffrey" took Ned Stark's head off. Holy moly, I was laughing so hard. Then old mate Joffrey started laughing uncontrollably and I got caught in a giggle-loop.

Then the end happened. What a waste of a character. There's half my enjoyment in the show gone.
Yeah I felt like they went into overdrive making the watcher hate him this episode before pulling the plug. He is the perfect hatable character and now he's gone, i feel like no one else is anywhere near as annoying as him to step up in that role.

Except Archer .....
Agreed. The benefit of having two young adult sons still living at home is I get introduced to stuff I probably never would have watched amongst which were Tosh.0, Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Archer.
Tosh.0 was good for a while. Always Sunny in Philadelphia is a reliable bit of fun. Archer though is the coolest, driest thing I've seen in comedy since Arrested Development (the early AD series, not the recent one).

three great shows.

The one I've always thought would translate as a great movie is Magician by Fiest. Not the whole (finally finished) series, but the first novel. There's epic battles, magic, dragons, love stories for the chicks, everything there for a blockbuster. And infinitely better than trash like Twilight etc that has gotten made.

Great call Andre. Another really enjoyable read

Just watched a recorded show of something else and an ad came on for, I think, Allison's Clothing. A grey, leafless, snow-bound forest. A raven cawing. "Winter's coming" it said, importantly not "Winter is coming." Subtle referencing of Game of Thrones. Subtle not infringing copyright. Hats off. :thumbsu:

Have you (or anyone) read Michael Moorcock's The Dancers at the End of Time? A really original and cruelly funny SF tale over several books and stories, any one of which can stand alone. I used to think that was unfilmable but with CGI nothing is now.

George R.R Martin is responsible for a pretty good thing but he's a really weird dude.

Think about all the sex in GoT. That creepy old man wrote all of it.

That's one of the weird things when I watch this show. The incest is just so there, but it's not even seen as that bad. And people who watch it accept it as not that bad, and according to this thread previously, even accept the reasoning behind there being incest. As if yeah, well there was this so the incest is all good.

I'm guessing the feeling wouldn't be the same if the show wasn't "fantasy".

I just find it interesting what outlets allow people to put their morals to the side for the sake of entertainment.

well, Daeneryes annoys the shit out of me?

Don't disagree but she is nowhere near Joffery. The guy was vulgar as any character i can recall and held a powerful position, albeit as a puppet, which meant his ego remained unchecked. Daeneryes hasn't had any effect on Westeros yet and she does do humanely positive things

Yes, loved it. Michael Moorcock has created some of the best characters ever put to print. Jherek Carnelian from Dancers, Jerry Cornelius from the Cornelius Chronicles and Elric are essentially the same character in different universes.

Plus, any novelist that has worked with Lemmy gets extra credibility points in my book.
