The age of entitlement is over according to Joe Hockey. PIGS ARSE.

Wyatt Roy - the first time he voted he was 20 and elected himself to parliament. If he is in parliament for 8 years he gets 50% of his salary as a pension increasing by 2.5% for each year of service until 18 years or more for 75%. Unless the preservation rules have changed, he can draw that when he leaves parliament. Bill O'Chee about 10-12 years ago was in parliament for a decade from mid 20's to mid 30's and drew on his pension straight after he left.

yeah the age of entitlements is over.

I was reviewing this myself........appalled by Hockey's "If we all contribute now..." line. The only preservation age changes that have been made in the last decade related to them taking lump sums....they must wait for normal preservation ages unless they take annuity pensions. The other joke is that their pension isn't indexed, rather it increases in line with parliamentary salary increases.

So yes.....they can draw on their pensions after leaving - and your examples prove the inequity further. Imagine a country where the workforce commences after leaving Uni at 21 - works 8 years, and then retires on final salary pensions for 60 years.

Meanwhile the fine print in the budget has Defence Force new recruits joining after 1 July 2016 unable to join a defined benefit scheme.

There is no party politics involved when I call them......4rs3holes

I haven't been watching the budget news because I can't be bothered having more things to be angry about, but I find it difficult to believe that Joe Hockey pronounced a four-syllable word.

In hindsight I wish I took this route, but I'm not much of an ostrich.

If the poor are angry at the rich then all is right in the world.

Good night sweet princes Tone and Joe.

The uncapped degrees are a good measure to get universities to a) be more competitive and b) improve their product, don't really have an issue with it. You still get HECS, you will just pay more overall for your education. You don't even notice HECS coming out of your pay anyway, really.

People might start noticing it when it's coming out at $32,000pa and you've got a $100,000 debt. Universities aren't going to use this new freedom to charge less money.

The worst thing is, the people who are rich now and control the wealth and influence the government on these sorts of matters went to uni either for free or for a nominal fee.

You don't make your country better by making it more difficult or expensive to get an education. It's nation building 101. Doing this on the back of a total fabrication about the state of the economy is absolutely painfully ridiculous but hey we got who we voted for right.

I'm sure all those mothers in Point Piper, Peppermint Grove, Toorak and Burnside put their baby bonuses to good use.

What about those who are neither rich nor poor being angry at anyone - rich, poor or neither - who voted for this bunch of mongs?

HECS is calculated as percentage of income, it's not going to cost anyone 32,000pa unless you are earning around 500k a year. My mate who is a doctor pays over 100k in tax in a financial year, 38k of it as HECS (he has an 80k HECS debt, started at over 100k), ofcourse he doesn't give a shit because his disposable income is insane. If you are earning 52k a year with a 40k HECS debt, you repay 2k a year. It's really sweet **** all and more than fair.

You don't even pay ANY HECS, until you are earning over 51k. (Though the budget is changing the threshold down a bit). It's really not a big deal.

Scare mongering on HECS is ridiculous. My other half pays around 220 a fortnight on her HECS, she's earning 82k, doesn't even notice it at the end of the day.

Do you have any idea how much it costs to go to the hairdressers in Point Piper? You need a baby bonus and the $900 from Kev and Jules just for the parking!

What about those who are neither rich nor poor bring angry at anyone - rich, poor or neither..

Try harder to get rich.

Over half the population apparently which means you need to spit on every second person you walk past on the street.

That's a bit of a paradox, that'd basically make me a Liberal voter! ;)

This bit is important. Isn't the plan to bring it down to about $32,000. That's where I got the $32,000 from originally.

It's not a massive expense, but for some people it's something they will be paying off for the rest of their lives, regardless of whether they get a decent job out of their degree. It's another expense on top of everything else people have to pay for. I didn't finish my degree and i'll probably have my HECS debt as long as I have more mortgage, given that it goes up with the CPI and there is now talk of interest being charged on it. I pay about $100 a week and it's absolutely not an insignificant amount.

Doubling or tripling of university fees is not some meaningless expense that you don't notice and that doesn't matter. It's tens of thousands of dollars. I'm looking at $100 a week for the foreseeable future and I have a relatively small HECS debt on a degree I didn't finish. Imagine if i'd been born 20 years later with uncapped fees.

But yeah nah i'm happy I have to forego that sort of money so Gina Reinhart can swim around in her money Scrooge McDuck style and so that big polluting businesses can **** our environment up the arse with no consequences and so we can have significantly inferior and significantly more expensive in the long term broadband and so that we can have a joint strike fighter patrolling every suburb.

Who gives a shit about health, education, poor people and families, right?

You need to come to the BF catchup Eddie Dingle is organising prior to the Hawks game then...he does it from 'height' as well!

**** man I think we have established I couldn't organise a whatsit in a whatnot.

You best get organising and I'll be there on time and sober.

On time and sober will probably not happen.

The cutoff is $50,638 from 2016, which is slightly down from $53,345 this year. Its not a big drop off and those that only just reach the threshold will only be essentially drip-feeding repayments anyway.
