I maintain Australians can't make really good comedy. The irreverent, self deprecating larrikin is a myth.
The Paul Hogan show was brilliant in it's day.Looking back at the videos Today you would barely crack even a smile.
But in it's day it was new and extremely humerous.

Peter Heliar's 'It's a Date' is pretty classic. But shit from Chris Lilley that somehow goes gangbusters in the ratings is grating.

There's some fantastic younger comics out there in Australia that just can't get a shoe in the door, unfortunately the limited networks and 'jobs for the boys'/low-risk nature of our broadcasters means that guys like Dave Thornton, Steele Saunders and Bart Freebairn struggle away on the standup circuit for years until Hughes/Heliar/Anderson etc. promote them in their own shows.

The talent's there, the guts to try them out isn't.

Come on, what is the most popular Seinfeld quote?

No soup/pretzels/serenity now.

I don't know, but a couple of my favourites:
"The sea was angry that day my friends"
"I drive them to lesbianism...and he brings them back"

He had a colossal brain melt that evening.. has he even worked since? remember seeing him on that Jerry Seinfeld coffee/cars web show thing a couple of years ago & he was still torn up about it.
I'm just watching that now - he's eerily similar to his character in real life.

Liberal Democrat. Bloke is an extremist libertarian. Chose the party name deliberately to get a variety of "donkey" vote from the unsuspecting :(

that was it thanks ... definitely set up for a donkey vote!

Was bored. Read the Paddy Ryder thread on Essendon board just for kicks.

Papa G

Haven't been back to the crows board? They were giving you stick over some issue last week...The draw wasn't it?

This was brilliant..

That was the funniest scene in comedy history. The only trouble is to "get it" you really needed to have watched the show for ten years :).

Perish the thought anyone in this state actually kick in for something they use regularly.

Person # 1 - "I reckon we should get a North-South expressway running the entire length of the Adelaide metropolitan area. How good would that be!? 100 km/h speed limit and no tragic lights!"

Person # 2 - "All sounds well and good, but who's gonna pay for it?"

Person # 1 - "Make it a toll road. I'm sure people in Adelaide wouldn't object to paying $7 or $8 if it means they get to where they want to go much, much faster...."

Person # 2 - "**** that! I'm not paying a toll! I'd rather go the long way round and burn up twice the petrol than pay a toll".

When I first moved to qld, I had an Adelaide toll mentality. But I soon changed my tune. It's time to face it Adelaide, the only way you get a great network of freeways is using private money. Toll, scmoll, the stress free ride of a freeway is well worth the $2.50 you'll pay

Western Australia doesn't have toll roads and the only pokies are at the casino. And we get to keep less than half of the GST raised in this state. We do however have a mounting debt and the state's credit rating was downgraded not long ago...
WA are swimming in mining and gas $$- apples and oranges.

Mother and Son?

We lack depth but would be hard to stay in Australia if you were a talented writer I imagine.
