Just as this word was has come into general acceptance for a particular section of the community, I'd like to suggest a more inclusive meaning for the term '****'.

When Vyvyan calls Mike a **** in the Young Ones episode 'Interesting', after Mike tells him that he is not to use the souped up vacuum cleaner, he is not questioning Mike's sexuality, but calling him a killjoy.

That's one example - others can cover such sins as:

Wowserism

Bludgers

Squibs

Turncoats
