The thing is if Turnbull makes it the Coalition are going to have to get used to being a very different party at federal level. A lot of the people in senior positions now are going to get the boot, except arch-survivor Julie bishop of course. The NBN may be built properly, the dismantling of greenhouse gas reduction programs may cease, and so on. Hard to see them holding that together, I doubt the Nationals will wear it. We may not quite get a Coalition version of Rudd/Gillard/Rudd because Abbott will never be back but we may end up with a 3rd option before the next federal election.

Bish is biding her time.

Windows 10 just told me that Turnbull is to challenge Abbott for the Lib leadership. He must be have been worried that they are were going to do well in the Canning by-election...
They vote Turnbull in still get a 10% swing against them in Canning I wonder where they go then?

Is there something wrong with my random playlist starting a new song, and within milliseconds I think "hmm... what's this? Oh that's right it is the bad guy music from Beverly Hills Cop II"

At least the news is got it eye on this and not the countless apricot slice and cat story's.

Rowey: Of all the times to pull a stunt like this, it should be all about our Crows this week, Bicks - THAT'S A DOG ACT, TURNBULL!

Too late to worry about that. The seat held or lost means nothing, they are still comfortably in power. In fact many in the Coalition would probably welcome this stoush muddying whatever happens in Canning.

Good gov requires three things; strong leadership, robust opposition and a thinking electorate. A Turnbull led LNP will fix point one and result in the ALP needing to step up and rectify the second point. Point three however has been destroyed by successive govts using cheap tactics to gain or maintain power so it's still a long way to go yet. (If he gets in)

I'll be surprised +++ if the LNP allowed Turnbull to lead in any meaningful way. But pleased too. However no point them careering along in the way they have, just with a different figurehead.

I wonder if this is the first time there has been a leadership challenge in the governing party (never mind opposition party) in the same week as they are contesting a by-election. Even Labor with their Rudd/Gillard knifings weren't that batshit crazy.

It took Abbott about 10 seconds to pull out the 'stop the boats' slogan. 3 word slogans seem to suit him well. 4 words would be pushing it.
Nah, also came up with a 6 word poison pill for his colleagues when he's dumped in "We are not the Labor Party."

Yeah that is a very good point. Mind you as I said the actual result in whether Canning is won/lost doesn't matter and the degree of swing is already largely known. But fundamentally you are right.

Apart from potentially torching a good young candidate.
