No matter where they origininated, they woulda made it. You're making them out to be cold chisel, some obscure group obscenely popular locally but vitually unknown overseas.

To use football analogies again, like Russel Ebert or Wayne Carey they could have made it starting from anywhere. Opinion on whether you like the music or not is irrelevant.

Ok listen, it's obviously bypassing you. Take a look at this list of British acts from the 70's, if ACDC rose in the UK they would have been competing with these.

If you can't see that breaking in the UK would have been a shit load harder than in Australia and that the novelty of being an Australian band wasn't a big factor then...well.

Obscure Tech Death Metal bands with superior musicianship that get no kudos ? Prog metal ? Jazz bands ??

Probably the best musicians on the planet, but the majority would call it "shit music".

That's my point. The sheer breadth of popularity in Australia of ACDC is a big indicator of their cultural rather than musical reach. But I don't care enough to discuss with you as well .

It might just be the milieu I work in, but of the 30 or so people in my work group I'd say at least a third of them have taken leave for video game releases at some point over the last couple of years.

Don't Japan schedule a public holiday for releases of Pokemon and Metal Gear because they know everyone is just going to take time off work anyway?
