So now your car just looks like the average soccer mums. People walking past will comment, "Bet that thing has never even seen dirt" (Looks underneath) "Nup, clean as a whistle. Phhttt...just another status symbol"

I'd rather the car run than have the radiator explode because it's full of sludge, but aiight.

Why is your radiator underneath?

The crossing through what was effectively a swamp included parts where thick muddy water came over the bonnet. My mates Lux packed it in on the spot, which was funny. He took it to a mechanic who took apart his radiator and said there was kilograms worth of sludge in it. Did lol.

Spent the last three days doing a more than necessary detail of the beast. Spent a good day underneath the car clearing out all of the pyroclastic mud from a Renmark riverbed all stuck in the bashplate and other areas. The front lawn now has a rather large amount of nutrient rich topsoil :)

Trips since last clean:
Adelaide > Uluru > Adelaide
Adelaide > Melbourne > Adelaide x4
Adelaide > Sydney > Adelaide x1
Adelaide > Renmark-middle-of-nowhere > Adelaide x5

I was literally carrying half of the nation in my bashplate and engine bay. Now...anyone keen for a trip so that I have to do this all over again?

Nice set up!

Not too many Prados would see that much dirt/mud in their life time. It' good to see.

Most of my 4wding is sand, I'm sort of put off by the thought of getting mud in everywhere. I'm guessing muddies and a winch would be a pre-requisite before tackling that sort of stuff?

**** Sydney, you're Adelaide yokel now.

Haha, fair enough. Do you have any traditional firework show in Adelaide as well? I'm used to watching the fireworks at Copacabana but I thought those in the Sydney harbour were pretty amazing - it was the first time I paid any attention to them. I know South Australia > rest of Australia, and Sydney looks like an interesting place to live, but anyway my biggest chance of moving to Australia any time soon is Gold Coast. I'm hoping that happens.

Not really. I almost regret getting muddies because it makes things too easy in mud, but it makes everything a nightmare in sand as they just dig, dig, dig. I'm going to buy a second set of tyres for summer in all terrains.

As for the comment about prados, the 120 series is an offroad machine but the next models went further and further away from that. The engine is bulletproof (uses the same engine as some hilux's, but the prado is fitted with an intercooler). It's like a wagon style hilux with a nicer interior and some luxuries. The engine and differentials are very similar If not the same to the lux released at the same time, which is also amazing offroad. The prado has a bit more power to compensate for more weight though.

Oh yeah, and the road noise from muddies is hilarious. Prados have some good sound proofing so it's not so bad, but my mates hilux was like being in a plane, but worse. So he took all his panels off and put in dynamat.

As for the winch, I've used it for recovery once or twice and have have used it to pull a treestump out of the ground in the garden and also to pull heavy ass logs to the campsite for use in the campfire. It's pretty cool but not necessary, I would just buy a set of maxxtrax if you don't plan on doing anything insane.

I think Adelaide have fireworks on the Torrens, but can't be sure as I don't actually live there myself. I'm out in Priscilla, Queen of the Road Warriors territory.
