What did Janus do?

The Star Wars thread in the media board hasn't been the same...

I legit work with a former expert analyst on North Korea's nuclear weapons capacity and he's not convinced at all that they have the capabilities yet to manufacture hydrogen bombs. The underground detonation is a way of hiding any sort of outside analysis on the explosion.
It's the old Sun Tzu art of war theory - Appear weak when you are strong, and strong when you are weak - and all warfare is based on deception. To get food aid from the west, monies from China, technical support from Japan and ASEAN etc you need to scare them so they pony up and scaring your own people to keep them in their place and when they get the aid, he can show the masses the west and others fear and respect him.

The estimates on conventional artillery alone would be enough to do the job. Even if you were somehow able to swat a percentage of all those shells and rockets from the sky you'd still be left with a stack of Barney when all is said and done.
Kim shoots a war head at Seoul, he will have 40 or 50 Minuteman missiles land in his backyard within the hour and September 11 looks like a Sunday picnic compared to that show.

He doesn't need to though.

If he flattens Seoul with conventional artillery and the US responds with any component of the nuclear triad, it's the Americans who've escalated to a hitherto unexplored phase and on balance, are the bad guys.

He aint going to flatten Seoul with conventional warfare. That would be thousands of missiles. They wont all get thru.

I've got no idea when the yanks would start to use nuclear warheads, but it would be put on the table very early in.

The only nation ever to use nuclear weapons will find a way to be the good guys again.

We're largely talking shells and rockets here m8. Closer to Korean War-era bombardment rather than po-mo HUD/Twitter/Hew Broderick stuff.

EDIT: I'm loathe to reference something from Google but i can't access anything more specialised atm.

The base info is sound though.

Doesnt matter what they use, first you have patriot missiles and the next versions invented to intercept them, and then you have the counter bombing of their positions.

Well, let's agree to disagree.

Thankfully it doesn't quite work like that.
Capability and reality very rarely meet.
The US and by association South Korea are so far ahead in the arms race for this type of warfare it isn't funny. Interception and early warnings will go a very long way as well as the over statement of the initial capabilities.

If anything goes drastically wrong, it will be intentionally so to allow provocation as justification.

You're talking about rationale actors. If North Korea feels it's them flattened or they attack and get flattened afterwards there's enough nut jobs there to go out in a 'blaze of glory' taking as many from the South (and Japan if they can get missiles through) as possible. They don't give a flying F about their own people's fate in return.

Read Chiwigi's last post. The US and South Koreans have had 60 years to plan for that type of tactics and response from the north.

What's stopping the myriad batteries from hitting Seoul, exactly?

Patriot missiles don't intercept shells.

What about that thing the Israeli's had, Iron something or other that intercepted multi missiles?
That stopped 80-90% of a handful of shells. If 99% of shells were stopped that's still 100's or 1000's of potentially chemical or biological shells through.

Posted a Simpsons reference that I thought was humorous and lighthearted but someone didn't see the funny side of...

Did anyone else see "Not Quite Hollywood" tonight on SBS?

Why can't Australia make those movies anymore?

(Except for my brilliant amateur works)

EDIT

Which led to a sense of nostalgia and me reviewing my youtube channel.

Teal Lightsaber for the win.
